Your paper doll sounds very different and wonderfull, it shows you have a creative mind and that you are an open, positive, caring person . Your passion for this future job shows through in your writing. Don,t think it will do any harm, to say, that you have asked older people what they would like from someone employed in your future role. I have in my role as a carer, been involved in interview panels , the passion for the job always shows through, Wish you luck at your interview, just be yourself, i am sure you will shine through as a natural for the job.:hello:What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
Congrats witsend and good luck with the interview.
Also thanks for starting this thread. I've just starting working in a sheltered living complex as a relief manager and have been asked to come up with new ideas for entertainment etc.(I absolutely love my new job).
I have been mulling over ideas and, hope you don't mind, but I'm going to pinch some of the excellent ideas posted here.
Many thanks folks.0 -
Excellent news - and the best of luck with your 'trial by lunch'
It's particularly impressive that the lunch party will be made up of representatives of all the stakeholders, this isn't particularly common.
The paper doll sounds like a very creative idea, which should impress, but - oh dear, there's always a but - I'm not sure about the photo and poem because it just sounds so obvious to me. Hope you understand what I'm getting at, you did ask for our thoughts
If I were a member of the panel I'd be thinking " Huh, creep - just because we're ancient she thinks she can win us over with a bit of emoting over another older person ". It can also be a bit of a showstopper as people could start thinking about their long dead grandmas, which for some of them may not be happy thoughts.
HTH
Fingers crossed for you......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Ooooh Errata you have got me thinking now as I had no hesitation on the photo and poem it was the first thing that came to mind and it was an instant feeling and seemed so right. I will certainly give it some thought as I am lucky enough to have many happy memories I guess I could easily use another tack, thanks for pointing this out it's really important to me to get this right:D
Lessonlearned well done on your new post I'm so glad that you are enjoying it, this thread is for everyone and I'm pleased that you are finding it useful:D
Glenstan thank you a good point,I will say that I have asked people as I have in a way on here that was my thought when I started the thread.
Thank you for all your words of encouragement and support I shall post a week on Tuesday and let you know how it goes.Remember every waking moment is a chance to turn it all around.;) Knowledge is the key to respect.

I love that phrase: we've done it sometimes where I work, and TBH I find it a bit of a nightmare because we're asked for our feedback on the candidates, and if you haven't had the chance to chat to all of them it can be a bit tricky. Plus I think it must be very hard for the applicants working out who to suck up to, IYSWIM. :rotfl:
Anyway, best of luck with it.
Ok so all I have to do is not talk with my mouth full, work the room without making anyone feel abandoned, make everyone feel special and important, suck up to everyone, be memorableHey I can do that I'm a woman!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
IYSWIM
On a serious note the thought had crossed my mind that I may not get round to everyone so I thought I would call and get names of everyone attending and present them with a short reseme? Not sure?
Also just had a thought on something to take that holds happy memories (other than my Nan)and I have a book filled with thank you letters from brides and people that I have organised parties for everytime I look at it it remindes me of happy times making their days perfect. Errata thank you for guiding me towards this as it's something personal and shows what kind of a person I am in a professional enviroment, what do you think?Remember every waking moment is a chance to turn it all around.;) Knowledge is the key to respect.

In my dark and distant past I chaired/facilitated a great many trials - by lunch, by coffee pot, by tea pot. Trust me - you will have no opportunity to eat anything but a couple of mouthfuls.
Depending on how many people are attending the lunch, there will be different strategies. If it's a working lunch round a large-ish table then the conversation flows, but you need to ensure you've had some kind of interaction with everyone. Some people may be satisfied with very little and chose to observe, others may try and hog the conversation an it's the job of the chair of the panel to ensure they don't. If it's a buffet lunch, then there's scope for moving around the room for everyone and in this case the candidates spend their time holding a plate with a sandwich on it and a cup of something - neither of which they have time to consume !
All members of the panel will have had in advance a copy of your application which they will have studied, so I doubt more written info from you will be either necessary or indeed allowed, as all candidates should be on a level playing field.
Sometimes all the candidates attend the interview lunch, which helps panel members to compare and contrast and come to a decision on who to appoint quite quickly. Do you know if this will be the case with your lunch?
HTH.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Love the paper doll idea - so inventive.
Sorry I haven't got any sage advice about interviews but just to say don't forget to 'be yourself' and my very best wishes for your success @ the interview.0 -
What something that meant a lot to me would I take if I were in your shoes?
Gosh, it's difficult isn't it. After much thought - I'd take one of my dog's collars as we always kept the collars when they went to doggy heaven.
That would give me lots to talk if needed about how wonderful the dog was, awful things it did, places we went to, all the happy times it gave me and what a special place it holds in my heart.
Most people can relate to dogs, even if they've never owned one they will have friends/rellys that did.
What does all that mean? I think the key is that memory is special and unique to me and my dog, not shared by anyone else as perhaps your thank you letters from brides and etc would be. Does this make sense ?
Baseball bat ? If you're sure they will all completely understand how baseball is played. How about a cricket bat - that will resonate with the blokes as well. Personally I believe the ideal picture to demonstate team player is a large knife :rotfl: as there's always some backstabbing sweetheart in any team.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
