I like my cheap little volkswagen thank you very much and while I could potentially afford a better car I chose not to and save my money instead. No kleenex needed.

Good for you, you obviously don't work at my local HSBC.;)

Not at all, I just get so annoyed that the greedy banks " dress up " something as an " Account Review " when their real aim is to waste customers time by trying to flog them something that they ( a ) probably don't need and ( b) could most likely get cheaper / a better deal elsewhere.

No not at all... im my experrience, it is an opportunity to see if the bank can save the customer money. This could be via the plus account, home insurance, car insurance, life cover mortgages.. its not rocket science.. if they cant then fine and if they can, well happy days...

Not all products / quotes will be competative for everyone but will be for others

Oh yea, " saving the customer money " so bank staff don't get a bonus out of flogging stuff?..

The banks don't make big money out of flogging these products?

It is the same as " cold selling " in my book, just that the banks dress it up as an " Account Review ".

Customers can almost without exception get better deals for themselves elsewhere.

I look at it as finding solutions that are mutually beneficial. :) I would never sell a customer a product that was clearly inappropriate for them.

Its the same as most companies selling most products and actually no, there is no bonus solely on seeling products.

There are strict guidelines to cold selling and account reviews are not about sales therefore are exempt.

Come on. You know that simply isn't true.

Some of it is about providing the best product from your range (which is good to retain customers longer term) but every review is about identifying customer needs and SELLING them products that you believe fit those needs.

There's nothing wrong with this (as long as it's need based).

Customer can ALWAYS get a better deal elsewhere. Most of them can't be bothered, and getting the best deal from their bank's range of products is better than being left to rot in poor quality, poor paying accounts from the same bank's back book.

No it is different to " most companies selling " ...Banks get away with it by being dishonest and dressing it up as an " Account Review ", it is time it was stopped, as we all know, banks have got away with far too little regulation for too long.

If you think that I am going to believe that there is no bonus for sales, then I'm sorry you are grossly mistaken.

And what if there is? What does it matter?
