As an ex large electrical retail worker I know how it feels to put up with some customers who just dont read things.
After christmas was the worst. The usual would be that they got given it as a present, got it out, tried it and decided it wasnt what they were after. They then try to get a refund. The box's are never in a condition where we wouldnt know it had been used and it was obvious it had been opened (alot of times returned without box).
Customers would not understand that we would not give them a refund or an exchange when they 'change their mind' and the item has been used!
Oh and to those who use fake details I remember one guy who did that in our place. After issuing a refund got a call a week later to say the money had not gone back on his card, turns out hed changed cards since. No worries well send you a cheque! So cheque goes off. We get it returned to us stating that this address doesnt exist. Instantly we realise hes given us a fake address, so decide to leave it. Its not our fault!
Few weeks go on and the guy contacts us again, still no cheque. We say well send another one to the address he gave us. Obviously he doesnt remember giving us the fake address and agrees. Months go on and the guy asks if he can collect the cheque from the store, not possible Im afraid as it comes from head office and has to go straight to the customer (for security reasons).
Then he asks to check the address, instantly you can see the realisation hit him. He says hes recently moved (interesting he never mentioned that before). Unfortunately due to security reasons we need to see proof of this move to make sure the cheque is going to him. He cant show it and says he has no proof. We say a copy of a utility bill from the old and new address will do. He cant show this (as he never lived at the old address.....) and the guy never got his refund! Over £200 aswell...

I found this thread snuffling around for some info on Argos and thought I would add my story to it in case it helps someone else in future with the same problem.
I recently bought two wardrobes and two chests of drawers from Argos at sale prices and since no local stores had enough in stock I reserved in a store that was a 124 mile round trip away. I was visiting the area that weekend anyway so it wasn't so much of a problem to go that far.
Six days later the sale prices were again dropped and at a saving of £56 in total. You can imagine I was a tad irritated so I complained - nicely.
I received a nice email telling me I was welcome to return the items to the store for a full refund. I pointed out that it would be an awful lot of trouble to make that trip again - with all the furniture dismantled and repacked - simply to buy the same things back at the lower price. I wanted the items I just wasnt happy that they had reduced the price again so soon after I had bought them. I asked would it be possible to obtain a refund for the difference in price on production of my receipt.
I received a nice email today advising that the procedure for home delivery where an item reduces in price within the 30 day money back guarantee qualifies for a refund of the difference in price. This is worth noting as it does not state this anywhere on the Argos site but would appear to tie into the Distance Selling Regulations with some goodwill thrown in on their part.
The email went on to say that if the item has been bought instore I will need to take the receipt back to the store and it will be at the managers discretion to refund the difference.
I will be visiting the area again this weekend and speaking nicely to the store manager. I hope to get my £56 back....will let you know how it goes.0 -

If Argos give a refund of the difference where it has been delivered to you then this is discretionary and not part of the Distance Selling Regulation. You have 7 days under DSR and can return at your own cost. Im not sure why you are unhappy? If the price went up, you'd consider it a bargain and not be offering to pay Argos the difference?0 -

Since I did not make a definitive statement I am not entirely sure why you feel the need to "correct" me. I don't particularly care why though. That you have and the fact that the rest of your post is frankly snarky and sarcastic renders it unworthy of any detailed response.0 -
Most Argos furniture is rubbish anyway. Thats why its so cheap. I brought a DVD recorder from Argos which stopped working after a month so I took it back and they refused to refund or exchange till they could test it. So I asked them to plug it in and they could see for themselves it didn't work. They said it had to be sent away for testing by a qualifield electrican. Which I guess is sticking to their policy but what made it worse was the way they said it had to be tested to make sure it really was a fault. Like I had just made it up or something! Argos staff really do seem to have a problem and I have witnessed many arguements in the store and staff have been assaulted twice. I think thats wrong and for the wage they get they don't deserve the abuse but someone somewhere must realise that the combative way their deal with customer problems causes these assaults and constant customers shouting at them. I now only buy stuff on-line from Argos or travel 20miles to my nearest Argos whose staff are marginally nice.
Another Argos story is I brought an Mp3 player from Argos and I took it out the box and all the buttons fell out! So I took it back but lost the receipt between then and getting to the shop. Anyway it was clearly marked with Argos label but the guy refused to refund or replace! He said I could have brought it anywhere and lots of places sell stuff with Argos catalouge numbers on. Anyway I politely asked him if I could get a second opinion from the manager who told him to refund my money.0 -
Is anyone that bothered about Argos anyway?
It makes Primark look up market.0 -
Update: The manager agreed to honour the price difference, refunded me the £56 and said if the same problem were to arise in future to go to him and save the myself the trouble of emailing service staff. He said it just didn't Need to be that complicated.
Now THATS customer service for you0 -
You went to all the trouble of signing up to MSE at 3.20 am just to write that? What a sad little life you must have ungnugger.
The foot board of my son's bed broke after 1 week and Argos replaced it with no problems whatsoever. However they also took his mattress and replaced that as it was part of a package. What a waste!! I did offer to buy the mattress from them at a cheaper price but they wouldn't have it. That did seem strange to me.
Ungnugger's post has been quite rightly deleted
I was not talking to myself0 -
Many people think that Argos are cheap. The truth is that the only time they are cheap is when items are reduced to clear.
I used to sell a brass bedstead. The double was £179 and the king size £199. Arogos sold the double for £299 and the king size for £349.
If something in Argos appears cheap then it is usually cheap quality (this goes for Ikea also).0 -
