why would the JVC work fine perminantly, and yet the aldi one would loose its settings at random.

Because the JVC uses non-volatile memory?

I discovered one "bug" / problem with this player:

If your key is not in the ignition, and you eject / insert a CD, then, when you try to turn on the player afterwards, with the engine running, it wont turn on. You need to press the reset button and thereby losing all saved settings and radio stations.

good point biblejohn - my cables were getting in the way with the harness adaptor that I had to use. Luckily there was just enough room to *jam* the cables to the rear left and rear right of the cabity! Just enough room to fit it in.

    Excellent. Glad I could help.

Nope. On most car stereos you have a perminant live to it which is to keep the settings. The JVC is no exception. If i cut all power to it, it immediately looses its memory settings. Whereas on the aldi one, when installed in the car, it *randomly* looses its settings. i.e. one minute its fine, then a few days latter for no reason at all it would loose all its settings. To me, it appears to be a fault with the stereo rather than with how its wired up.
  • Hi All

Read with interest a lot of comments relating using ipods with this radio and on the strength of it went and got one last night. As tomt suggested the file directory on the ipod means that the tracks are not played in order but I generally like to set it on random anyway so not a big problem for me. One thing I have just tried to get around this is to switch the ipod to disk use and copy a music folder over and this works fine. Not ideal if you want to have your whole collection available (in order) but handy if you want to listen something in particular.

I was wondering if there is a way to change the ipod directory structure…I doubt it…but if I find anything I’ll post it.

All the ones ive seen are. Are you sure that the wires at the back arnt getting caught up somewhere, or stopping the radio going back far enough?

    Thanks, biblejohn.
I actually measured the radio against the factory-fitted, and it was about 1cm deeper:-( I'll try again to see if there is any tolerance allowed.

Are you using the cage which came with the aldi radio? It might be that if the factory radio is shorter, then the factory cage is also shorter and so you need to change it for the other one.
  • Hi all

Bought this just before Christmas and now I'm back decided to have
a go at fitting it last night.

Only snag so far is that the antenna socket is recessed inside the
back of the unit by about 4-5cm, the antenna cable in the car
    is an L-shaped plug.

Any ideas where I can get an extension cable?

    Thanks all!

You can get the part you need from a Car Radio accessory shop.
    Nice to save.
  • Thanks LSD, I'll pop to Halfords or Maplin tonight and see what they have.

Do I just need an ISO antenna extension cable?
