  • Hope everyone's had a good couple of days.

It's Payday today :j, and so I've finally made the last payment to the virgin credit card!!!! :T

    We've cleared the credit cards!

Technically we're not actually credit-card debt free as we have the car service on the Sainsburys card, but I've paid this month's £100 off towards it instead of putting it in the car savings pot and next month I'll do the same; so it's very much controlled debt at 0%. So I'm going to claim to be credit card debt free anyway! It's actually a bit of an anticlimax to be honest... but at least that's a huge chunk of debt gone now. I'll wait for the payment to clear and then cancel the virgin card. The credit limit's £6k on there and we don't want that sitting there unused on my credit report.

I've also transferred a further £75 on the sainsburys card for our shopping delivery we received last night which we put on there for nectar points. :) It was actually less than that but I've rounded it up a bit.

We were £160 overdrawn this month and this morning we've gone through our budgets to prevent this happening again this month. I feel more positive going into the month now.

A few more things to report: Hubby won £35 at his work from some raffle type thing. :) He's put it into savings 'pots' and is going to pay for his Mum's mother's day gift/meal out of it too.

I have completed a few more surveys - one earning £3 which will almost cover the latest ebay fees, one other which was for points. I only need to do one more now to reach the £5 payout on that one.

We sold another Amazon listing overnight :), a book for £5.33, so probably £3.50 - £4 profit which I'll transfer over to the e-saver as I'm going to start to build that up again.

Now off to update the snowball with this month's repayments... oh, and check out the new signature! :D

You're on a roll, keep it up!
  • Hi DFSD

Well done for being credit card free :j. It really is a testament to all your hard work that the balance has come down so quickly.

That's a fab bingo win from a free stake. I'm so jealous! I hope you can use some of the winnings to have a treat to celebrate the milestone :D.
Mortgage, draw down Sept 2014: £222,000

    Now: £173,229
  • Thanks everyone, to be honest I thought I'd be more excited than I am when it was paid off, but I guess it's just onto phase two now and the loan busting adventure! I don't think I will be physically jumping for joy until our first completely debt free pay day when all our money is our own (or most of it anyway).

Nah - no treats Chocs, gonna pay off the car servicing whilst I'm in a sensible mood! (It won't last long... :o).

    Debt-free and Proud!
DFSD that is awesome news..well done:D..even if it seems a bit of an anti climax you should still feel very proud and celebrate in some MSE type way....??? (not sure what!!)

Re making gifts..I think cushion covers from potentially nice scraps of cloth can be very lovely (and dead simple to do)..and if your mum is a tea drinker..(my family always have the kettle on.) theres always the tea cosy..twee maybe but very lovely and keeping the brew hot is pretty MSE...

  • Great ideas Brizzle, thanks for the inspiration! We are also a family of tea lovers, so the tea cosy would be very apt!
  • A day off for me today :j, and quite a busy one so far. The car has been serviced, costing £218. They also imparted the joyous news to me that we'd need new break pads within a thousand miles or so (had my suspicions we would soon anyway). So, I don't think we'll be overpaying the full £400 on the loan next month, I think we'll have to get new brakes with some of it. Still, at least it's not going to be going on the credit card like times past. It will be good when we're able to build the car maintenance fund up a bit again in a couple of months.

I also had a lovely leisurely browse around the shops. Bought a few little bits, but didn't overspend. Was tempted at one point, but then asked myself whether I really needed this item and the answer was, of course, no, so back it went. :D

I have done two loads of washing today and it's out on the line drying as it's a lovely drying day today - very windy and sunny (although still bloomin' cold!). I've blitzed the bathrooms, hoovered through the house and given the kitchen a bit of a wipe down. I've also given the internal doors and some of the paintwork a little clean. It needs painting really, but that's way down on my list of jobs. :o
I might clean the kitchen and hall floors later if I can summon up the will to do so. I still need to sort out/shred/recycle lots of paperwork that I've gathered into a pile on the bed, but it's still sitting there at the moment. That's another job for tonight!

I'm home alone for most of the evening - hubby won't be back until very late, so it's dinner for one and maybe a nice hot bath tonight. :)

    Have a great weekend all,

    DFSD
