Hi TP
We had double glazing a couple of years ago and had some quotes from the larger companies. They were very pushy to get you to sign there and then and said they couldn't offer the same price the next day!
We also contacted a local firm who just really do work in our town and their price was half! We went with them and it was all done within the week - actually it only took a morning. They were so good that my parent's had their conservatory done with them, and their neighbour had their front door replaced with them.
So I'd recommend contacting a small local firm and try to ignore all the half price/back done free offers as you'll probably get a better service from the people who actually fit windows rather than just a salesman and a cheaper price.
Good luck

thanks for that TT, i have thought about that already as a lot of people have said that to me...i don't like it when salesman from the larger companies knock on the door trying to get me interested. We have seen the local companies working on other peoples houses in the area...and they seem to do a tidier job...and offer the best service..so i will be calling local people for quotes.
luckyyou for having got your double glazing already!! can't wait..although with only 80.00 in the fund so far it may be a while yet!!total morg o/p's 2007/08 = £795;)
mortgage o/p's Nov = £90- target :£100 pmonth :j
double glazing = £300 -target :£3500 ????:rotfl:0 -

£80 might just be enough to buy the hole that you can see through.

mortgage o/p's Nov = £90- target :£100 pmonth :j

There is a complicated formula for working it out but when I took out my mortgage, it stated the total amount I would have to pay back over the lifetime of the mortgage. This equates to so much per £ that you borrowed, so a quick calculation would be £795 x this figure. It's the method I use as it's quick, albeit a little rudimentary:
Eg
You borrow £100,000 over 25 years at x%
Your lender says you'll pay back (for argument's sake) £250,000 if you just pay the minimum amount for the 25 years.
That means that for every £1 you borrowed, you'll pay back £2.50 (£1 capital and £1.50 in interest)
Hence an overpayment of £795 would be the equivalent to paying back £795 x £2.50 = £1,987.50. (ie £795 capital and £1,192.50 in interest)
It's not a truly scientific calculation as the overpayments have not been paid off in one go but spread across the year, but it's a fairly good guess. It's certainly close enough for you to feel good about it!!!
Somebody more qualified will be along in a min to work it out to the nanopenny.
