Just seen this on the website that has been set up for people wanting to make complaints against Firstplus. It looks like a home made website but I have joined but have not posted yet....!!!

    It says here as well

FIRSTPLUS have been responding to complaints stating that it is nothing to do with them and the responsibility of the LOAN and PPI SALE is that of the brokers, however these policies are FIRSTPLUS branded policies and in most cases state that FIRSTPLUS has arranged this PPI policy on behalf of the Insurance Company. Nowhere have we found on the Credit Agreements or Subsequent Insurance Policy documentation any reference to the responsibilities of the brokers.

We have also found that the insurance companies we have spoken to have not authorised some brokers to sell insurance on their behalf, therefore the liability goes back to the intermediary “FIRSTPLUS”.

We would encourage every customer of FIRSTPLUS to review your credit agreements and insurance documents to see if in fact these policies were suitable at the point of sale. If you feel that you were not informed on all the information then send a letter of Complaint to FIRSTPLUS and request a refund of insurance plus interest, which is most cases could mean thousands of pounds.

    I wish!!!!!

  • FAO Showergirl and Natalie,
Mine was also dealt with in Manchester by RBS, and yes my case officer was as useless as an ashtray on a motorbike lol. I am in agreeance with reporting this mob of cowboys to the FSA about their tactics in selling PPI, It infuriates me how it took them 8 weeks to look at the complaint and then sent the response without checking telephone recordings. I think they are using the whole 8 weeks to try and buy time, but this will only come back to bite them as the longer it takes to pay out the more interest is gathering.
Will give the FSA a call on Monday.
Good luck and i will post any developments

Yes I will ring the FSA on Monday too, is there any way that we can all jointly contact the press about them & name & shame them?
  • Hi, i am after some advice. I applied for an rbs gold card , formerly AU card, in 1998 without selecting ppi. my application was refused. A month or so later the wrote to me and offered me a the card if i took out ppi cover, i did this and i have had the card ever since. I was paying ppi until i cancelled the policy around 9 months ago and took out a stand alone policy to cover all my needs. Do you think i will have a vaild claim against the rbs with this? as i say they have only approved my application once i took out ppi.

Its always worth a try even with the older cards if you have all the details still as there could be the problem. Do you have a copy of the agreement..??

I would just get a letter in and see what happens....

Just take a look at the link here and see what you can add and delete from the template letter. Its always best to do your own from this. There are lots of reason on there for the misselling so pick out the ones that are applicable to yours.

You then write to the firm that actually made the sale of the PPI to you if this is different from the lender and don't forget to send this recorded delivery so you always a proof and dates etc.

After that you have to give them 8 weeks for a full and final response. In this time it is usual to get a response of "sorry we sold this to you fairly" but you then respond to this and reiterate your complaint again. The next time they write they either give you a final response which you would need in order to take this complaint to the FOS or offer to settle.
