PPI Reclaiming discussion Part III

Hi,
I cancelled my PPI last May and asked for a refund at the time but was informed that the reduction in my payments should be seen as a refund. I was paying around £65 a month for PPI.
I sent my 1st claim letter to Natwest / RBS on 1st October 2008. The letter i sent asked for a refund based on the PPI not being sold to me as optional. I was told that if i didnt take the PPI i would not get the loan.
RBS sent me numerous letters asking me to fill out an "optional" questionnaire which i did not get round to filling in and also sent me contact details and leaflets on how to complain to the FO, which i ignored until i get a formal response.
Today i received a letter including copies of my loan application showing that i have ticked the relevant boxes agreeing to PPI and also the calculation showing the full amount i would pay to cover the loan which approx 5k.
RBS have said that they can't "uphold my concerns" as the optional nature of the policy was provided before i signed the agreement but have made a good will gesture of approx £800 which is approx half of the amount they owe me based on a calculation of £65 per month up to the cancellation date.
Has anyone got any suggestions? I am half tempted to take the money and leave it at that but i have a history with natwest and didnt back down before when claiming my bank charges.

What on earth can they find to disagree about?
Isnt this the one where you were not working and only got child benefit?
Hi pinknico
I know, exactly, and of course the adjudicator is unable to say what further issues he raised, but I know I have the letter here from Lloyds to inform me they had shredded the letter I posted to them in 2004 about my PPI query that I asked for a copy of, as they said it was something they do due to their policy prodecures????
I did confirm this to the adjudicator when he asked if I had a copy of the ppi query here. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Absolutely! (Would be great if they could do it quickly too, wouldn't it?!)Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -

Hi there.
In 2001 I was sold a lloyds tsb credit card in the bank, I was an homemaker with just receiving the childrens child benefits, they rounded this off to £200 a month on the agreement.
However I was the principal card holder, my husband has his own separate one to himself, so where-as I was not a 2nd card holder to him.
All I know I was told to sign and that was that, and of course then being so laid back about this insurance protection I thought it was an all inclusive credit, so if I cancelled the ppi I would then have to cancel the whole lot and pay all the balance off.
I did though pay this off in late 2004, settled this with a loan.
They had ticked the particulars on the form and crossed where I had to sign, of course if this was then explained where I am aware now that this was a non-advised sale, I would have cancelled the PPI if knowing I could keep the credit going without the ppi as I now believe I was paying out for something that would not fully cover me.
Thanks.The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Hi Di,
I took the loan in September 2005.

Thanks.
If this was their final decision then I would move on to the Financial Ombudsman service who will be able to investigate this for you, however the loan company may also have given you the opportunity to write to them further.
Was there a FOS leaflet enclosed? and did they suggest the FOS at this time?
It may be a standard response you received here hun and if you have a case here I would continue to battle this out.;)
If you decide now to move on to the FOS, enclose any copies of correspondence to support your case, here is the link for the FOS below, you can download a form or ring them to send you one through the post.

If you require further info, please feel free to yell.
Good luck.

hello all,
i contacted hfc regards ppi we were paying on our credit card which i cancelled 12 months ago and today recieved a letter back stating,
they could not find our original application as legally they only have to keep them for 6 yrs and we have had the account for 13 yrs
and they feel it was added to our policy in good faith and the fact we paid it for 12years would signal that we agreed to the cover .
i wanted some views on this we did pay it but did not realise how useless it was until ppi started to hit the press etc
i believe it was our own stuipid fault we never cancelled it sooner
does any think we should continue trying to claim is that or are we flogging a dead horse
thanks sarah0 -
