we have a loan with A&L which has been in place since 2005. We recently realised that there is PPI on the loan which (a) we didn't know about and (b) my husband is self employed so wouldn't pay out anyway.
We wrote to A&L and they wrote a couple of times saying they were looking into it, and they have now come back with a letter saying
'the loan account you have with us is on a fixed term, fixed rate contract. When the loan agreement was set up the insurance policy was purchased for the full duration of the loan and we are unable to alter this agreement'.
In order for us to cancel the insurance, we will need to close this loan account and set up a new loan over the remaining term.
They then go on to give us a new monthly payment, the figure of which is only £20.00 less than what we pay now when the PPI we pay is over £100.00 a month.
Can anyone guide me on this please?
That is normal for them to refinance the loan. They should refinance it at a rate the same or less than your original agreement. These companies have policies in plate called Treating customers fairly. If this is not the case then complain.
Do you feel you have adequate grounds for miss selling or are you just going to cancel the PPI . If you feel you have been miss sold you can claim it back
Let us know and somebody will guide you:D.:mad:0 -

Hi and thanks for replying! This response is to my letter stating the insurance has been mis-sold, that we would like the payments refunding and the insurance cancelling so yes, I do think we have adequate grounds for miss selling due to hubby being self employed.
Thanks for any help/advice you can offer!0
