I sent a second recorded delivery letter stating, that I was going to contact the FSA with the help of your recommendations about the insurance that was still continuing even though I had paid up the loan in full. I enclosed a copy of the T&Cs of the insurance policy which stated that the insurance should have stopped on the repayment of the loan. The following day I received a phone call from Ocean Finance stating that they could not understand why my T&Cs said what they did, but would look into it. Monday this week the same person called to say that they would refund me plus 8% interest, almost £3500. I was sceptical at first until this morning the cheque landed on my doormat. I would like to say A VERY BIG THANK YOU to everyone for their support, advice and encouragement to retrieve the money rightfully owning to me .It has only cost me the price of two recorded delivery letters to receive my money. I would like to say to everyone that is considering taking on the Financial Goliaths…………………………………… there is a David in all of US. Again, a big thank you.

I will now take away my angry face and change it to a smiling one...:D0 -
Sorry, just to clarify - here is the letter I sent (basically verbatim from the site). I did write a while ago asking for it to be cancelled but never sent it recorded delivery and never got a reply (never did anything else about it), cant prove this sadly.
I am writing in relation to the above payment protection policy(PPI) which I believe was mis-sold to me. I believe you have not treated me fairly for the following reasons;
· The PPI was added without my knowledge.
· I was not asked about any pre-existing medical conditions I suffered from/warned that pre-existing medical conditions could affect my insurance.
· I was not asked whether I already had any existing insurance or employer benefits that would cover my repayments.
· You have been punished by the Financial Services Authority for failing to treat customers fairly and I do not believe that the PPI I bought was sold in my best interest.
· I wrote to you asking for the PPI agreement to be cancelled, as the policy was no longer required. You continued to charge me the premiums despite this.
Unless you can prove that the policy was fair and reasonable and that I was treated fairly when I was sold the insurance, I demand a full refund of all premiums, and subsequent interest on these payments, that I have paid in relation to this policy. I also expect 8% interest to be added to each payment I have made as this is the statutory amount a court would pay.
I look forward to your full and prompt response to this letter. If this matter is not settled within eight weeks of this letter I shall be contacting the Financial Ombudsman to investigate my complaint.0 -

I stopped my lessons when I started with BPV in 1997 just after giving birth. It meant that everytime I tilted my neck backwards I got a nystagmus (violent movement of eyes something like the exorcist really!!) and everything span around (not good when you are driving). It even happened in my sleep on turning over. I got it twice for 6 monthly periods and then paid private and saw a neurologist in 1999 and he cured me there and then of it but COULD return again... I had to be spun around and hung upside down and tilted this way and that to get the bits of bone inside my ear glued back down again and then I had to sleep sitting up as could not lie down for 3 days...:eek: . My docs thought I had a thrombosis and it was mini strokes...
I never returned to driving after that and have lost all confidence now cause of things...and never had the money again...

Hi there, i'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction?
we have a loan with A&L which has been in place since 2005. We recently realised that there is PPI on the loan which (a) we didn't know about and (b) my husband is self employed so wouldn't pay out anyway.
We wrote to A&L and they wrote a couple of times saying they were looking into it, and they have now come back with a letter saying
'the loan account you have with us is on a fixed term, fixed rate contract. When the loan agreement was set up the insurance policy was purchased for the full duration of the loan and we are unable to alter this agreement'.
In order for us to cancel the insurance, we will need to close this loan account and set up a new loan over the remaining term.
They then go on to give us a new monthly payment, the figure of which is only £20.00 less than what we pay now when the PPI we pay is over £100.00 a month.
Can anyone guide me on this please?0
