Hi,
I brought a car through a company that offered finance. The loan was with GE Custom Finance. I guess the company were dealers for them. My repayments went to GE Custom Finance. How it worked was I went to the companies office then they took me to a car dealer to choose a car then back to their office to do the paper work for the loan.

Hi there hun
Even if you have cancelled and was sold the PPI between Jan 2005 onwards then you can stll try to reclaim as this was possibly mis sold to you.
Because when cancelling depending on how long after, they don't exactly give anything back as such, it just stopped, did they give anything back to you when you cancelled the PPI hun do you remember?
Can you remember how this was sold, by telephone etc ?
Now do you still have the agreement?
If not you can request for a copy of the original agreement for when this was first taken out, make sure they don't charge first, if so it should only be about a £1, if you request this in writing after finding out of there is a charge and post by recorded delivery as your proof, they should provide the copy within 12 days.;)
If this was a telephone call the chances are that they added the PPI automatically anyway.
Thanks I have found an agreement for egg and I took out the credit card in 2000. I have found a copy of the payment protecction policy and the credit agreement, but I have not found where I should have ticked a box to say that I wanted ppi. I have a copy of the bit I have signed with the date on it though.cross stitch cafe #90 UFO's 6 to finish in 2013, and loads of new kits to boot

Neptune
It is the company who sold you the insurance that are liable. Quite often these companies are also getting commission from the companies that sell the PPI so get huge commission . Hmmmmm wonder why they sell the insurance. They are at fault challenge the PPI claim it back.:D:mad:0 -
Hi Neptune whoever sold it is liable for it. Who sold you that insurance. Were you aware you were buying PPI. Did they explain what you were insured for. Did they tell you that you did not have to take the insurance
out with them and direct you to independant PPI insurances.
Hi, Well the loan was with GE Custom Finance. I got the loan from a company that offered car finance. How it worked was, I went to their office and then they drove me to a dealer to choose a car then took me back to their office to sort out the finance. They told me that Unless I took out the Insurance I wouldn't get the loan. They did not offer any other insurance.

Damn, just a thought was going to suggest you request for a SAR, which is known as a subject access request, they have to provide every information they have on you, but unfortunately they only generally go back as far as 6 years in supplying the info, mind you if you cancelled within the last 6 yrs then the info should be amongst the paperwork they must supply you with.
This way at least it will prove you did have PPI.
Now hun can your remember what year you cancelled the PPI?, if its 2002 and after it should be okay then where the PPI info will and should be amongst the request.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Steve.
You have a classic case. Claim it back. They should explain the insurance to you and inform you that you have alternatives. eg look for others to sell this PPI which is cheaper if you go for stand alone Policies. The policy you had were probably front loaded which is not PC nowadays.. Look at the letter above or on the page before Di posted one I posted another and make it relevant for you. Send it registered and let usknow how you get on. They have 40 days to respond to the SAR . Send by registered post so you know when it has been received. Let us know what they say and we can then guide you further.:D:mad:0 -

Steve, have you the address details for the company who sold you the car hun?
I was wondering - they will have a finance department, where they arrange the finance for you.
If you let us know the name maybe one of us can track down the finance head office of that car firm.;)
Need to pop off for a short while but will be back okay hun.:D
We will get this sorted out.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
