WOw Maxdp, are you that against psychotherapy... I think its far better than tablets long term... if you are depressed often changes in your thinking and the way you view things is what is needed. We all pick up habits from the people around us if we allow... .

Tell me more why you are so agains them??

No M arshallka not really against them. Just working alongside them their voices drive me insane. Its no big thing just having a laugh.

I suppose most therapist end up doing what they do cause they have a deep interest in their subject. A lot of the time they have had issues themselves or grown up in families that have had issues. e.g. alcohol, drugs, eating disorders. mental health issues, etc etc and go into that profession to help others. My issue is the same as a lot of Mental Health Nurses (I count myself as one) and LD nurses I wonder how many have actually dealt with their own issues and how many do more harm than good. I have known several psychiatrists who have written books about their patients, have induced false memory syndrome etc etc. I know in all professions you will find the same sorts of problems.

I have no problems with your thoughts about therapy rather than tablets and whole heartedly agree that it is the healthier options. Having had to see therapists during our work e.g. after having to deal with difficult situations as in being attacked or threatened with violence or suicide etc we have to have post incident support.

They like to know the ins and outs of a donkeys bottom and then come up with some silly reason that you have acted as you have e.g. you missed out a major part of your development in your early years and never crawled. You may laugh it does happen.

A friend of mine who was giving up smoking was told by a therapist that he had trouble giving up because it was a nipple substitute and he had never been breast fed. OMG PMSL

    Anyway you have to laugh:rotfl:

    http://www.themoneystop.co.uk/112008/many-banks-get-all-clear-over-bank-charges.html
Never had any applied and that is the truth or at least the last 7 years or so. So does this mean all them people waiting for the charges back will not be able to challenge them:eek: .

I have seen so many people offered goodwill gestures and refusing them waiting for this test case. I bet they are now kicking themselves... .

Are these counsellors or actual clinical psychologists or psychiatrists... I really believe in psychology myself. Its just the time it takes and the money too. I think sometimes docs do not want to listen and just dish out the pills and then the person who was slightly depressed over issues that probably could have been resolved by therapy is hooked and needs more pills before coming off the first. I believe lots is just learnt behaviour that you can unlearn..

I do know some people are ill really and need the pills but they should never be used long term and docs do keeping giving them. They damage some people more than ever and they can never return to normal life again. Its just easier sometimes to pill them up and blank their minds...

Also I realise we are all different with different coping mechanisms and it is each to their own. And most of us have some kind of psychological issues that we keep hidden. Its if you want your mind digging into that it helps with. If you don't then stick to the pills. No-one is perfect...(only me of course). I love psychology. I have so many books and thinking yourself well books... The mind is so powerful..

Even when psychologists do come to the sort of conclusions that you have quoted etc it is then that you begin to understand why and know you have a choice in things..Do you let it ruin your life anymore or understand where it came from and try to move on...without the need for pills.
