Good luck with it Di, I work with kids with special needs and I really love it, but I take my hat off to you parents. I am exhausted after 6 hrs at work so I really don't know how parents with disabled children cope so well the rest of the time x
Aww thank you Owlet, I did not realise you done that, well done to you. .
I also have an older brother who is severely autistic, he is in his early 40's so I am used to it really and leant to live with it, and my hubby's cousin she has autism too also severe.
I used to work in a hospital caring for people with special needs.;)
Yes it can be very tiring.
Thank you so much. xxThe one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

marshallka wrote: »Does your son meet this criteria then Di...Is aspergers actually a severe disability then.. wow did not know that.
. I know a relative has it but did not know it was classed as like this..
.
It is not a severe disability he has, but he has more needs then others for a 13 year old, on the list this is what occurs to him:
The physical environment
Education
Communication
Access to social activities
He also has complex needs, we cannot even take him on holidays, not in the summer anyway because he cannot cope with too many people, he takes things literally and he cannot walk alone, if you go another direction he will be at a loss, it gets so confusing for him, although Aspergers is not a severe disability in itself, but he has the main of the definitions. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
marshallka wrote: »What things then do you have to do for your son Di. Is it like dressing etc.. does he go a special school as well, is this where the incident happened the other week. . I would be going mad now if it did. And a special school as well trained in things like this. Make that secretary pay for it Di.. walking by like that.
He has no co -ordination for clothes, such as matching up clothes, they have to be put ready the night before for him, all labels are to be removed from his clothing, he tends to chew and eat his sleeves:eek: .
I could go on, he has a set routine and if this changes there is hell to play, going out is hard work, so we have to drop him off to his nans to go shopping, he can't bear the crowds.
He is in a special needs unit at his mainstream school, we do not have a special needs school in our area anymore.
I have made a few comments to the ED Dept about the secretary, I have not finished with her yet lol.The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

He is lucky though as its not entirely disabling for him (or the parents). You live and learn everyday.. I know holidays can be a trouble but could you not go somewhere quiet and relaxing perhaps. Everyone needs a break.
The school did annoy me at something they said, they were put straight about this so I passed them on a DVD made by Tony Attwood who explains about Aspergers.
The head said we have a few in this school with aspergers and I know what their like, so we told her they are all individuals and all have their own needs, where my mate's son who is a year younger than Daniel has this but he is not so bad, because we tried explaining to her that if changes take place they do need to try and let Daniel know well in advance if they can.
It would be nice to have a break somewhere if we can.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
