Hi and thanks for that. What I am not sure about is who the insurance is actually with? My very first statement back in October 1992 has a final charge titled 'INSURANCE PREM. AT 0.300% on £183.89' and this changed to 'PAYMENT PROTECTION PLAN, 09 JUL' about 4.5 years later, it now just says 'Payment Protection Plan'. There are no details on any statements about who the insurance is actually with - I assume some part of Barclays?
I should be OK in putting together a letter, however I don't actually know where to send it.

    Thanks

    Andy

  • Hi,

Can anyone help? I took out an Egg loan and was offered PPI and took it. I was temping at the time in a position that was ongoing. Is that a good enough reason to reclaim? Should I have been offered PPI?

    Any info greatfully received.

    Thanks
  • Hi everyone

My OH submitted his MBNA claim to FOS in January 2008 after final "no chance" letter from MBNA.

He last heard from FOS in August - waiting to allocate - and to date still hasn't heard anything. His PPI claim is for a loan which is now repaid (April).

Hss anyone any idea how long the FOS "waitng list" is - its now been 10 months!

    Thanks

Hi That is not unusual I have also had stuff with them from beginning of year. They will get onto it soon I am sure. Think it is 9 - 12 months at mom.

Hi You will need to look at the terms and conditions. If you took the PPI in the beginning of the Loan surely that was all explained to you. Was the PPI front Loaded? Perhaps you can give us a bit more information.:D

  • Thanks for that - not just me then - but just seems to be incredibly long-winded system. Still I suppose if everyone is asking FOS to assist them, it will take them months to go through the pile.

My A&L PPI was paid on my first letter - just lucky I suppose.

I would do like maxdp says here and look at your terms and conditions. Sometimes if you are working for 6 months then its classed the same as full time employment. I think you may have a claim though. If you read them through and still feel the same then send a letter of complaint.

Just take a look at the link here and see what you can add and delete from the letter that you send. There is also a template letter on there too but sometimes it can be better to make your own up from this.

You then write to the firm that actually made the sale of the PPI to you if this is different from the lender and don't forget to send this recorded delivery so you always a proof and dates etc.

After that you have to give them 8 weeks for a full and final response. In this time it is usual to get a response of "sorry we sold this to you fairly" but you then respond to this and reiterate your complaint again. The next time they write they either give you a final response which you would need in order to take this complaint to the FOS or offer to settle.

  • Dear All,

Thanks to this site I have recently realised that I was completely miss-sold insurance for my Alliance & Leicester personal loan which I have had since April 2007. I have attempted to cancel my insurance immediately and have been sent a letter telling me I need to cancel my loan and set it back up again because I agreed to the Insurance for the whole term.

Obviously I dont want to do this because the interest rate they are now calculating is higher so I wont be much better off without the insurance. I now want to complain and make a claim and will do so using the templates on this site but am not sure if I should mention them trying to change my interest rate in the letter and whether to let them recalculate the loan in a few weeks when the interest rates change will have kicked in.

    Any advice from anyone?

    Hi there
You do know A&L were fined for mis selling ppi don't you?
I know it is mostly to do with phone sales of ppi selling but even so if you feel you were mis sold this you should try to reclaim on this by sending them a template which you will find here:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance

There is also some useful info on the above link.

Now I do remember reading that some companies do reschedule on the loans if you cancel the insurance but don't forget this will be without ppi and you could possibly have a very strong chance of getting every single penny back when reclaiming and complaining of the ppi, even if it ends up with the financial ombudsman.

If you send a letter to complain and reclaim they have 8 weeks to respond, and if unsuccessful another letter can be sent until you receive a final decision, if still unsuccessful it can then go to the FOS.

However if you still want to cancel the insurance write as soon as possible, separately, the choice is yours hun but if you require any further info then please just yell where one of us will be able to help you.;)

Good luck and remember to send all post by recorded delivery.
