I too am thinking of going to talktalk and get a similar message. Still will be cheaper with talktalk since currently light user and my broadband is £20 a month plus calls whereas talktalk is just over £16 with only weekday call to pay for.Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. Sorry to bump this topic.
I'm looking to have a line installed, and thinking of the BT LUS.... Orange are convinced that any 2-way working line will suffice for Orange Broadband - including the BT LUS, however, BT seem to think its a no no... thoughts?0 -

Orange are partially correct in that the equipment doesn't know what tariff is being charged so it would work. However as noted above BT do not offer LUS for lines used for ADSL.0 -

Orange are incorrect, you need to be on a standard rolling BT monthly tarrif in order to to have broadband on the line. Anything like LUS or if a lines status is in OCB (Outgoing Calls Barred) will prevent an order for broadband being placed on that line0 -
I currently have the light user scheme but now I want broadband.
Does anybody know how long the light user scheme takes to cancel?
i.e. how long after cancelling it can I sign up for BB (with somebody other than BT)?0 -

Ring up and they will remove it straight away but it may still show up on the system for up to 48 hours. Warn your chosen ISP about this. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Resurrecting this post again!
Does the above mean that if you already have BB with LUS (Which I have had for the last few years) you can keep it (BB)?
I'd like to change BB suppliers, but don't want to lose out on the LUS - want it all ways basically:D
Even if I don't swap BB - the connection keeps dropping out, so I'll have to own up soon to get the line checked.
At the end of the day, I need a BB connection and the cheapest way of having a phone line for use in emergencies - not a lot to ask is it?

If you can afford broadband then you can afford the line rental for a normal telephone line. Thats the point with LUS is that you cant afford broadband or a normal telephone therefore you have a basic form of contact.
LUS is there for those who need a basic contact (ie. vulnerable or those who are deemed poor by the requirements of LUS).
As soon as you want to migrate the system will flag up that you have LUS & you will have to move onto a normal tariff should you wish to change BB suppliers.0 -
To bump this again, how do BT know you have a mobile contract on this scheme??
I was on this a few years ago as all I used the landline for was BB, I never used it for calls other than 0870 / 0845 numbers as I had a mobile with a decent amount of minutes, and they didnt query it....
But how would they know I had a mobile?0 -
In terms of the overall 'qualification' for the LUS the mobile aspect rates very low. So its not a crucial aspect i'm guessing for the scheme.0
