Aha! somoene else with the same system as us. Currently at work, but I'll put our useage on here when I get home (if I remember!).

Don't know the kwh figure, but I worked out a "cost" figure. Based on 4 (frosty) days this week, on half term with wife and 2 kids at home, our usage of gas equates to £85/month. Once wife is back at work and kids at school, useage will go down.

    Decent sized 4-bed detached house.

I'll put the kwh here later...

Hi - mines a 3 year old J50 Modairflow (Johnson & Starley). House similar 4 bed detached (1979 vintage) also has economy 7 heaters so they are also on low.

I'd be interested what you do about the water heater bit of the unit - I used to have it timed to come on for half hour or so 4 times a day but my gas bloke who serviced it last week said we were better off having it switched to constant and it just kicks in now and then to keep the water up to temp (in a 3 year old factory insulated tank). To be honest don't use much hot water here as we mainly shower which is electric.

Ooh, tightperson, at last a family who use more than us! Our usage (6 adults and teens in 3 bed house) for Nov/Feb was 2212 elec and 13230 gas.

For this summer, elec was 1228 - about the same as you but our gas was 2380. How have you used less than a kwh a day of gas (77kwh a quarter)?

Hi, I've no idea how I used 77 Kwh, I've checked my figures and I think they are correct but it doesn't sound right I know. We have gas central heating + water and a gas hob. Never use the bath, always showers (gas).

I took our meter readings today and I've worked out our usage from 30/08/08 to 31/10/08, 2 months.

Gas was 221 Kwh about 3.5 Kwh average per day
Electric was 978 Kwh about 15.7 Kwh average per day

I'm dissapointed how high our electric is for two months, we have tried very hard. What is using so much electric is an 18 year old freezer in the garage, an 11 year old fridge/freezer in the house and the fact that as we are both disabled all our washing gets tumble dried in a 16 year old tumble drier rather than hung outside on a line.

I have just bought an A+ freezer for the garage which we get this weekend so that should help a little.

I had a really good day with the electric yesterday. I went bed at 11pm read the meter before going and had only used 4kwh all day.
To my surprise this morning it was almost 9kwh since the yesterday morning. What the hell had used so much all night.
Then I rembered DH had fell sleep on the settee watching TV. The TV was still on.

    tightperson you are not alone.

5 bed detached 1980s built (then extended) 4 adults 2 children although eldest son at uni now and daughter only showers here as she works near us.

    Gas 22000 KWH (GCH)
    Ele 5637 KWH 2007-2008

I have changed afew things though and trying out different water/ heating in general and insulated more so hopefully be lower certainly these past few weeks even at these low temps looks like my average gas has fallen and electric is stable.Avg 63Kwh per day (and 2 adults and 2 children at home half term so heating on nearly all day) over these very cold days and we are still warm at stat setting of 20c and boiler water setting No 3. Last year on cold days av 126 Kwh /day.

Just to add there was somebody at home nearly every day as well last year so heating nearly always on in the day time during winter.

Ah, do you mean you've used 3.5 meter units a day?

Please be aware that a modern freezer needs a minimum surrounding air temperature to work properly and is unlikely to work properly in your garage as your old one did. You could find that it actually defrosts as the garage temperature falls !

okay, i can't for the life of me work out the gas usage. We are on Britsh Gas, click energy 6. We moved to our current house and the leccy is a cinch as it displays in kw/ h so that's easy to calculate but it's working out, in money, our gas usage. Our meter is in cubic feet and since the 3rd of October we've used 25 cubic feet. can anyone explain how i convert that to kw/h for me please? Roughly speaking we're paying 8.5p for the first 670kwh per quarter. Many Thanks!!

Current useage is 8.5 kw/h units of electric a day and about 1 cubic foot of gas a day.
