Elec - 5 kwh per day
I'm sure I can get that down over the winter months! I'll be buying the wife some more jumpers this Christmas...
That is seriously low Gas. Whats your Winter Gas comsuption normally like?0 -
Can anyone help we live in a 3 bedroomed bungalow 2 people. Previously with Staywarm our electricity consumption was 3680kh per year. I moved to n power and have had readings for elec of average 20 per day. We were estimated to pay £30 a month but since May to October it is almost £350. This would make it £700 a year we cook with elec heat with gas and have full insulation. Can anyone explain it? I am feeling worried with the winter coming.0

Gas - 2.3 kWh / day; 5.4 kWh / day when cold
Elec - 2.6 kWh / day0 -

What is it that you want explained? I'm assuming the average 20kwh electricity a day?
There are lots of threads about electricity consumption (this one is about gas!). Trouble is, there are so many different possibilities, it's hard to guess without details. I'm assuming that you heat water by gas and you don't have any electric heating?
What do you think it might be? Do you have any energy hungry appliances? I'm thinking about a tumble drier, plasma TV, old PC on all day? Old fridge and freezer?
When you say you average 20kwh a day, is that from your own meter readings or bills? And if it is from bills, are they all actual readings or are any estimated?
Also, were you using 20kwh a day over the summer months or has it only just jumped?0 -
Joss - Is 20kwh a day actual usage or are your bills estimated?0

(It's gas heating but most of that is the hob and hot water. My averages probably aren't that useful - the thing is I'm not in all that often and even when it's cold if I'm not going to be in all evening I don't bother with the heating. And I don't use the heating in the morning - steam from a bath or the shower is more than enough to make the bathroom comfortable enough. Realistically, if I'm in on a cold evening the gas would be two or three times that average.)0

Hi
I'm new to meter reading etc but now understand since doing my energy comparison to switch.
Only just started doing daily readings but our gas is high (we have an AGA which is obviously on 24/7), a condesing boiler, hot water tank in airing cupboard, cavity wall insulation, part double glazing, heating on for 2 hours am and 4 hours pm. All rads have stats.
Re hot water. Mine is on all day. The other day I acciently knocked the power off whilst reading the meter so it was off all day but the tank was only cold at the end of the day. Would I be better to have the hot water off all day, does it cost much to keep the tank heated compared to reheating a full tank.
Hope that makes sense and thanks, DustyThe birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -

The answer that's usually given to this one is that having the water heating all day is like having your kettle on constantly. The water loses heat and has to be heated again - in a well insulated tank there will be less heat loss but why pay to reheat it if you're not using it. It will cost more to heat water from cold but you're heating it for less time. Some people reckon they've tried both ways and there's little difference, others claim that they've made big savings only heating the water they need.
I know our daily gas consumption went down when we had the boiler on for less time.0
