Look at the stores who do do it well. John Lewis for example, Their staff are normally well trained not only in the goods of the department they work within but also of how to reslove customer complaints. You very rarely hear people wanting compensation from JL, because the issues are dealt with long before it gets to this stage.
So if complaints like these were dealt with properly then no compensation would be needed, the store retains customers, the customers are happy - everyone wins. Not a difficult concept is it, it's apathy and lack of ownership to problems that causes issues.
People who shop at John Lewis and similar shops pay a premium for good service, the OP shopped at Homebase, presumably on a cost basis.
One of the reasons Homebase is cheap is because they don't pay large amounts of compensation, and sell cheaper goods.
The OP chose to use Homebase, they could of shopped elsewhere, and paid more for better service. They could of cancelled the order and gone elsewhere. I would not wait as long as the OP did, I would have taken my money to somewhere that could supply.
Homebase offered poor customer service, but it was the OP's decision to shop there, and wait for them to resolve the issue, and not go elsewhere.0 -
Somewhat incorrect uktyler, JL do not charge a premium for good service. They offer their goods at competitive prices, al be it that the brands they sell tend to be better makes rather then cheaper junk. But this just cuts down on the amount of returns they have to do I would presume!
And Homebase is no cheaper then any other DIY store, they are all about the same price, My argument was about how stores treat their customers, even when buying cheap items you can still get good service.0 -
Don't JL have a "never knowingly overpriced" policy?0

And my point is that it was the OP's decision to wait 5 months, they could have cancelled the order and gone elsewhere.
Any decent plumbers merchant would not take that long to sort it out.
Homebase made a mistake (probably a few), but the OP chose to wait instead of going elsewhere.
I think £100 is a good offer, do you really think the OP should get the shower for free? What do you think fair compensation would be?0
