I think £100 is a good offer, I personally think that's more than generous regarding the circumstances.

Why shouldn't she be recompensed for her efforts? She's bought a product which turned out to be faulty, the least she should be able to expect is a same/similar replacement product at her earliest convenience. Instead, she's had to chase round to get the replacement, organise then cancel with tradesmen (Lord knows what the cost of missed work hours racks up to there). £100 is a bit of a joke all things considered.
People like you make everything in the shops more expensive for the rest of us.
That's a grossly generalised comment. I think you'll find rising manufacturing costs, inflation, a !!!!less government and light-fingered 'browsers', not to mention the local authorities who charge extortionate rates are the ones responsible.

So where do Homebase get this magical £100 to pay the OP?

Of course all these compensation claims cost the rest of us money, if they have to pay it out they need to get it in, and that comes from the rest of us who shop there.

The OP could have cancelled the order and purchased from elsewhere.

Our government may be useless, but I can't see them forcing Homebase into poor customer service.

What would you like to happen in this case? Give the OP the item for free? Have Homebase come and install it free?

We all pay for other peoples compensation every day through our shopping baskets and taxes, I feel the compensation should fit the financial losses incurred, and nothing else, after all you can always vote with your feet and shop elsewhere.

Probably trying to cover the cost of people deliberately falling over things and trying to sue them.

    Demand compensation!!!

Although to be honest you don't deserve any.

People like you make everything in the shops more expensive for the rest of us.

And it's people like you who ensure the shops continue to offer bad service and expect us to pay for it!

When someone in the store looks at how much they have had to shell out in compensation/gestures of goodwill they will then look at why. Then things change and the shops get better, which is good for the shop and good for the consumer. Not a difficult concept to understand for the average person, but I understand that you may have trouble with it!!!!

It came up the other day in the Tesco coupon thread but there seems to be some sort of karma thing going on with service, perhaps thats what happens to you judging by the tone of your above post;) . I bet you'd say the same about me as well. I've got this funny feeling though Dave Brooker like myself probably doesn't seem to get all the problems other people on here get!

He's got the name of Homebase's supplier (I think they're called Jacuzzi, but they now say that they've stopped dealing with homebase)

I get the feeling Homebase have probably stopped dealing with them not vice versa.

At least homebase have recognised the problem and rectified it.

People are too quick to blame the shop they purchased it in. They get the idea it is their product and they can rectify it, the shops hands are tied by the manufacturer.

The title of the board should give you a bit of a hint, it's a "Vent Board", your highly unlikely to get good karma stories posted in here are you!!!!! Good grief, people come here for advice and to let off steam not to get half arsed comments by people trying to big em selves up.

If your not prepared to help them, or to respond to them in a constructive manner then don't bother at all. Since the likes of DaveBrooker and Linus have decided to become the "retailers champions" these boards have rapidly gone downhill. New posters feel intimidated by the inane comments that they continuely spue forth. And those of us who are prepared to offer constructive advice or hold a resoned argument just can't be bothered because of the immature behaviour of a couple of posters.

I think you need to re-read my post, you seem to be confused!

Most consumers get stroppy because the hard earned money they have used to purchase goods or services is being taken from them, more often then not by un-trained staff who have little or no knowledge of consumer law and rely on their companies T&C's which are in ADDITION to the SOGA not instead of it!
