I was thinking of switching to OneBill from BT and have 'dug up' this thread - it's managed to teach me nothing about the company, only that people tend to be cynical about every company, which doesn't really help in making an informed choice. I remain unsure either way.0

Hasn't it? This thread has certainly shown me that ONEBILL is a company to avoid at all costs."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Hmmm! I am here today looking into one bill telecom only because of a recent drama , been with them for 2 yrs never had a complaint about them really (who would after the drama of BT) find their costs ok average £65-90.00 a month for 2 business lines contacted week before last with new package which I declined sticking with present package.contacted last week by phone call asking if I had authorised a new supplier to take over the contract ,Said no im happy where I am now receiving barrage of invoices from them ha ha ha well whistle dixie boy! ha ha I envisage and suspect that they might be creating this drama for themselves , would have been happy to stay with them for the next 10 years lol but now I will be happy to pay another company More money! to get away from them ha ha one thing i did not know was that I have to inform them 42 days before leaving and that it was a rolling contract the guy I spoke to 2 weeks ago verified I was not in a contract (I was always under the impression that i was in a 12 month contract and never bothered going to anyone else at end of term " if it aint broke why fix it" ) seems were coming to a sticky end ! must say that I am shocked at all of the bad feedback this company has had now I look and count myself lucky for having no drama till now (still got a year left tho by the look of things )so I think Ill root contract out give them 42 days notice to end contract date NOW!!! ha ha ha0

yes thats right , its called giving people the benefit of the doubt. I do not face problems with them however as I now know of their restrictive terms ! I do hope my innocence on this doesnt shock you and would apologise if it does ,keep up the good work0

When I tried to move to another provider from Onebill they alleged that I had made a verbal contract with them on the telephone for a full year and so therefore I was due to pay £299 plus VAT in cancellation charges.
So I asked for a copy of this verbal contract. Max (who would not give me his surname) then told me it would be £10 for him to send out a copy of the alleged telephone call which constituted the contract.
However - by law - a supplier must provide a copy of any contract without charge. So Onebill are acting illegally in trying to charge customers for a copy of their contract (if indeed such a verbal phone call recording contract even exists).
I have since spoken to another friend who asked for a copy of the telephone call when he tried to cancel and it turned out that Onebill did not have a copy of the call. It was a bluff!
I phoned Max back and pointed out the above points - mainly that they are not allowed to charge for a copy of a customers contract. He refused to apologize for "company policy".
The second issue is the Cancellation Charge pro forma invoice. This contains VAT. However it is illegal to charge VAT on a termination charge. So the cancellation charge pro forma invoice is artificially inflated by the VAT on it. According to Steven H,
the next operator I spoke to who was willing and able to give me his surname, the VAT does not appear on the actual invoice that comes out after you terminate.
However the fact that it appears on the pro forma is therefore only there for help put the wind up the customer by inflating what they believe they are going to have to pay.
And this is all stated Onebill company policy!0 -
We have been with them a number of years now, and all works fine - until you want to change something! One call is all it takes to wreak havoc! Every time it goes totally wrong, they moved premises a while ago which I hoped would improve things, but not so! Not to mention their sneaky contract lengths etc etc. As is often the case, getting them to acknowledge a fault on the line and contact BT is a nightmare too.
In short, avoid like the plague!0
