  • We changed phone providers a couple of months back from Onebill Telecom. They claimed I had a verbal contract and wanted approximately £300 back to end the contract which I refused to pay. I had one outstanding monthly payment left to make and offered that to them in full and final settlement. They accepted. Sometime, afterwards I received another invoice for the £300. Tried to telephone but our number has been blocked! Sometime afterwards we get a letter from CARSuk.org, debt collection company. Spoke to them on the phone and informed them that I was in dispute with Onebill and was not prepared to discuss the matter with them. We have now received a letter threatening County Court! Has anyone else had similar problems? And what did you do?

The letter you have received is a letter before action.

You can ignore it, but that allows them to go ahead and issue proceedings against you which will include court costs.

Should you decide to pay what they claim, then you will also have to pay the additional costs, as they warned you this would happen.

Though this may just be a tactic, and if you ignore it and call their bluff, then maybe they will do nothing.

If they do issue a court claim then you should not ignore that, but either defend it or pay it. (If you ignore it they will win a CCJ against you by default)

The worse company i have ever dealt with, bills will far excede what you expected them to, im talking £100 a month!!!!! When you set the account up, being told £14.95 a month and free calls anytime.
When you complain, they suggest you increase your package and for a couple of months the bills are low, then they again start to increase (each time you upgrade the package, they renew your contract, if you try to leave, they threaten you with a charge of hundreds of pounds)
when you eventually decide to leave, they are the rudest, most difficult, bullying company, i have ever had the misfortune of using
    stay well clear
i have actually put a complaint in with the onbudsman

Yawn, okay two questions: who's the company and are you a troll?

  • I've seen others recommend the value of OneBill Telecom's pricing and service, however, from my experience, cancelling the contract when we no longer needed the service has proved to be one of the most frustrating business experiences I've come across. They have ignored my written confirmations and have been rude and unhelpful when I've spoken to them. Even though the amount involved is not significant I'm referring their handling of our case to Ofcom as they've made the process so difficult at every step.

We're currently in the process of cancelling too, and it's not easy so far. They are adamant we agreed to a 3 year extension of our contract a few months ago over the phone, and also did it with no cooling off period - I've asked for the phone conversation recording, which apparently isn't time and date stamped by their computer system.

Their sales rep sent us an email with the "new contract" details in and we replied saying that don't agree to the new contract but they are saying that the contract was already agreed by then and as there was no cooling off period it doesn't matter.

I'll see what the voice recordings say but I'm definitely not happy about this.
