He did this at the beginning of the year with no replies but he's been advised to do this a few times but ignored the advice without telling us he'd already done it. I think from his replies to people on here, he wants it on a plate without any effort on his part. I found a review last night in a few minutes which also advised on setting it up so he could do the same. Nothing wrong with Sony Bravias that can't be sorted with some setting up but a little effort is needed not throwing pounds after another TV.
Unless of course this is just a wind up.0 -
I'm so glad, reading this thread, that I'm not the luddite that i sometimes feel. I still have CRT Tvs because I'm yet to see a panel which, to me, looks as good with a normal digital input. HD might well look fantastic, but I'm not going to receive any HD content for a long time. Looks like a case of "the emperor's new clothes"
To be honest I always prefered the SD picture on CRT TV's but when our 32" JVC broke recently we got a 37" Panasonic Plasma and the picture is superb on SD, better than our old CRT in fact. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
STrewth,
i HAVE tried the b***** settings off the av forums and the picture is slightly better BUT, the problem of blurry/fuzzy pictures is as bad as ever.
There is NOTHING wrong with the tv, it is this stupid Digital signal we get, if it was in HD then i wouldn't have a problem.
I had to buy a new tv because of the digital switchover, and we were told to get a hd ready one for the future, so that's what we got.
Talking to a neighbour today, he has got a second hand satalite reciever and a viewing card and he now gets a far better picture, and gets more channels.
He had exactly the same problems as i am experiancing with a 32" lcd.
I will do the same, and i shall post back when done to let you know how it went.
and
why should this be a wind up???,
but thanks for the help and advice. Not ashamed to say ABBA are Great :j0 -
I thought it could have been a wind up because in all your posts you never said anything positive.
But, you are now going to try something positive and I hope it works. I have Sky+ but I also have Freeview via the tuner in the TV and also upscaled via HDMI from a Sony RDR-HXD860 DVD recorder, and via the recorder it is better than SKY.
Edit: Another ABBA fan here too.0 -
Ive just been reading this ~

Its not THE same set as yours, but it does make it sound like you have a faulty set!:idea:0 -
djohn,
what do you mean by 'upscaled', could i do this ??.
I don't have sky.

I have a SKY dish and a 1-off payment viewing card, no monthly subscription, picture perfect on my SONY Bravia 40 LCD, V-engine.
Fits the bill but you maybe need to check what channels you get/don't get via the SKY viewing card in relation to what you have now on Freeview.0 -

I don't know if all DVD recorders do this but my Sony RDR-HXD860 (and later models) does. If you connect the recorder to the TV using an HDMI lead, the picture gets upscaled to resemble HD, and it does a good job too. Others, mostly those who are paying out money for HD will sometimes argue that it's a poor substitute but judging by my own eyesight they are only trying to justify the extra outlay. Picture quality afterall is subjective, if it looks good to you then it's good enough.0
