As a lot of people have said (Including me) go into the menu and turn EVERYTHING of you can. Go back to a 'bare bones' set up
If it has a HERTZ setting, set to 50Hz instead of 100.
If your still having problems then, youve bought a dud!

I have a 40in Sony LCD and I absolutely love it. Picture is great via Sky.

However when I initially installed it the picture was not so good and it gave me a headache after a short while.

As others have mentioned mess around with the picture settings.

I would suggest lowering the contrast quite a bit and back light options which were very high on my initial setup and was what was causing me eye strain. I knocked mine down from around 90 odd percent to around 50% and some other settings and that sorted it out.
  • back on line now, had a pc glitch.
anyhow, having re read my thread, i have basically realised that i have bought a lemon and it's my fault. Actually expecting to be able to watch telly on my new £700.

I have altered the settings this evening to those suggested on the av forums, and to be honest it has improved it a little, but the fundamental problem is still there.
    Well you live and learn.

Feesh, don't really understand what you mean 'wrong sort of telly'. Should i have got a plasma then??.

If you weren't intending watching HD sources, you shouldn't have bought a LCD or Plasma at all.

So am I right in thinking the problem you have is ONLY watching in freeview?

Even though you have a good signal does NOT mean its a good 'quality' signal. By that I mean it could well be full of errors. Your 28" CRT tv would hardly pick up on the errors as its pretty small, but a 40" will show them up no end.

I would perhaps think about getting a new aerial (or the one you have realigned, depending on how it looks) and using some H109/CT100 type cable co axial cable instead of the usual cheapy stuff. Its much less susceptible to interference. Ideally plugged STARIGHT into your tv. And (If you have one) also check the wall socket connections and maybe upgrade the aerial cable from that to your tv (There are some pretty good aerial leads on ebay with ferrite suppressors on to clean up the signal some)

Hi, the problem being described about blurring on fast moving object on digital tv is caused by the limited bandwidth allocated to each multiplex. At the transmitter the channels are transmitted in groups of around 6 channels on each multiplex and that multiplex will have a bandwith limit of around approx. 28mbits/sec. At any point in time if all the 6 channels on that multiplex were showing slow moving material then everything would be ok. However if say 1 started showing an action movie, another a football match and another motor racing then basically there's not enough bandwidth to go around and fast action starts to blur. This because in this country the broadcasters went for quantity rather than less channels and better quality.
Also, the better the quality of the tv you buy the more capable it is of showing detail. This means it can show up a poor signal / transmission more than a lesser tv. There is probably nothing wrong with your Sony, it is doing its job of showing as much detail as possible, it just happens that that means it shows up the poor transmission. If you can afford to get sky HD are you will see what your tv is actually capable of.

I have a 6 month old 40" Sony Bravia KDL 40T2800, and i'm absolutly fed up with it.

    Why?

Well, first off, let me say the TV is in perfect condition, there are no technical faults with it, as an engineer has checked it out.

The problem is the quality of the picture. By this i mean that when watching certain types of programms the tv makes my eyes hurt:eek: , i kid you not.
The best example is watching Match of the day, where there is a lot of green (grass) in the background and then the players running around, and the camera constantly moving back and forward following the action, the result of watching this for half an hour is to make you feel slightly giddy.
The picture is always slightly out of focus, just a little blurry, untill the action slows down and then everything suddenly pops into focus again, untill the action starts again and then were back to a fuzzy picture.
So your eyes are constantly trying to adjust to compensate for the the fuzzy picture.

For things like watching soaps/news etc, it is fine, but any fast action stuff it is CRAP.
I live in Cumbria, and we only get a digital signal now, (the analogue signal is now off for us), and we watch through a ordinary ariel recieving the Freeview signal. We recieve a full strenght signal.
We use a Daewoo hard-drive recorder to record programmes.

Why can't we get a better picture, the engineer who checked out the telly told us the quality of Standard Definition (SD) is pretty poor, and just before he went he played us some film of the red arrows from his laptop through our tv that was in HD and the picture was incredible, sharp from corner to corner.

Has anybody any suggestions how to improve the picture.
If i got sky HD would this be the solution.
Should i get rid of this tv and get a smaller screen one (which is what the engineer suggested, he said the problem is the same but it will be less noticable)

I'm throughly fed up , having spent a small fortune to go Digital (because the Government thinks it best,) i have the most expensive tv i've ever bought , and the worst picture i've ever had:mad: .

    Thanks for lookiing.
If i could have my none Digital 28" toshiba back, i'd be delighted.

We have exactly the same tv and my other half iws always fiddling with the setting... he also watches match of the day as a regular.... he fiddles with sharpness and the vivid cinema and standard settings........

anyway he says this site is great...
