  • I made anti-climb paint for £2! (normal price £10)

Our estate has all the anti-climb signs on the railings but the actual paint dried up years ago. It's mostly vaseline and dye so I knocked up a pot with some non-toxic boot polish and a huge tub of vaseline - both £1 each.

Last summer there was a big fight at the local pub and I heard a young chap being chased by a noisy group carrying bottles and shouting "i'll f*** stab him" etc. He legged it over our railings but only one of the group climbed over before they realised they would get covered in nasty dye.

After some shouting and postering the group left and the young guy sneaked out unharmed - saved by Poundland!

best not copy what I did really as it's probably not helf and safety compliant
  • This morning I got a 28cm Galileo Thermometer from Keighley Poundland. A similar one from the UK Gift Company is £13.95! Whether it is accurate I wouldn't like to say but it does look pretty!!

  • The novelty items are great - thinks like the Halloween costumes you will see for anything from £4.99 - £20 elsewhere and also the Christmas Items. My other buy is normally the low fat liquorice - you do get a bit less than in Wilkinson but will pay £2 less - in lake land it is in at about £4!

You have to be smart about some items though - things such as notebooks which are like 49p for three in wilkos, and small packs of felt tips will be under a pound elsewhere. It's easy to pick up items such as cotton buds and stuff too.

My advice is to keep a list of particularly expensive items and look out for them, also watch out for quantity too as you may buy a lot of a certain thing in pound land but one costs 5p and you only need 2!

Children's coathangers - could only find them in other shops for £3-5 per half dozen - Poundland 15 in a bundle! Some guy is selling three packs of the poundland ones together (45 hangers) on ebay for £10 a pop!

Also vacuum bags for storing clothes and bedding etc are in poundland (and work great). These are £10 for three in tesco.
For everything else, there's MSE :T
  • Poundland Skelmersdale

Cadbury Fingers - double box £1
Travel pack - eye mask, ear plugs, travel pillow

    Don't like shoddy tools
Home Bargain round the corner is usually cheaper for medicine and tablets
  • I love Pound shop hunting - get most of my gardening stuff in my Local Poundland, we also have a Poundworld - woohoo! They are great for seeds, seed trays, mini cloches, frost fleece (to much stuff to list). Craft items are also good value for money
This year I bought a soaker/irrigation hose attachment in Poundland they were well over a tenner in B&Q. Mop bucket was a great find too
I have had some great bargains over the years but beware of buying household cleaners such as bleach, stardrops, they are often much cheaper in a supermarket.
Dont be afraid of taking items that are faulty back, I bought a garden led parasol light and some dried up glue, they exchanged the items without any fuss!

Wrigley's Chewing Gum (7 x packs of 5 strips). Since the big supermarkets stopped selling chewing gum strips in favour of tabs, Poundland is the only place I can find them. I find tabs/pellets quickly go stale and soggy which I hate...
