Last major bit of shopping for the month happening tomorrow - gotta go to the butchers for the meat for the month. Luckily it's a wholesale butcher who supplies all the local restaurants so much cheaper than normal butchers. 500g minced beef £1.40 and £1.50 a chicken breast....I had got out of the habit of buying chicken and used to go for turkey as a cheaper option but these chicken breasts are so big that in a curry etc, we only need one between the two of us! Hurrah!
Well pasta and sauce for us tonight...quick and easy but we've lots of pasta in the house and it's what's on the meal plan! Have to go through the freezer at the weekend so I can start on December's meal plan. (which I know is really sad!!)
Also want to move the chest freezer inside from an outside shed so that I can make more meals to freeze for after the bump arrives. Must get organised! Unfortunately going to work really messes up my nesting plans!!!Jonathan Douglas born 20th January 2009 - 9lb 4oz

Hi guys
This is a lively thread already! I'm hoping to keep my spending to £160 this month. That said I've already spent £11.58 at Holland and Barrett, although this is enough seeds to last me till after Xmas (I have them in muesli and bread)
I also have an order from sainsburys arriving next week - decided to go for it rather than tesco since they sent me a £7.50 voucher. They also deliver in 1 hour slots which might be handy too.
Hoping not to have to buy anything too much till the shop arrives - apples and bananas should do
Good luck everyone.0 -

this probably isnt the forum for this question so I apologise in advance. The chest freezer in my garage is all but full, mostly of forgotton items. I went to hunt for a couple of bits this morning and discovered that the outside of the freezer is extremly iced up and it took a great deal of effort to open. Its shut again but there is a huge amount of ice round the seal so it does not close cleanly. I guess this is the route of the problem.
Everything inside is still frozen so I am guessing it hasnt defrosted itself and re-frozen but I am puzzled at why it was so iced up. I am going to have to defrost it but with a freezer full of food this is not going to be easy and I probably wont be able to defrost for a few weeks.
Does this mean I need a new freezer or is it that Im storing too much food in it?0 -
Morning all!
Just finished October challenge (total declared £66.53).
November will be a four-week month for me, so would you put me down for £70 please MrsM?
Once I've managed to defrost the freezer it will need restocking with veg etc; I hope I will be able to do this within budget as i'm away for work a few days next month.
Good luck everyone!Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain ...0 -
it could be condensation that's causing the problem if it's frozen on the outside -- we used to get the same (to a smaller scale) when our chest freezer was out in what used to be the coal shed at our last house.
but if it's only slightly open due to being overful, then this will cause ice to build up around the seal -- again more likely when outside, as if you keep it in a warmer environment you'd get the warm air stopping that happening (and this is when your food will defrost slowly)
Pay day for me today -- my last but one pay cheque
But my month for the GC doesn't start until tomorrow....... so see you all back here in NovemberCheryl0
