OS meet up?

Hi all
Thank you Ollie for bump, and for your good wishes and well done for your OS effort! The weather was ok, a bit cloudy but nothing to complain about. The Lord Mayor's parade is such a crowded event that I try to avoid it (like the Notting Hill Carnival and other public mass events - I find crowds a bit intimidating!).
I am just back now and really want to thank Sparrer, Minihauk, Purpleclutterbuck, Annie123 and JackieO for making this meet a great success.
It always fills me with joy to see how people who had never met before seem to become best of friends within minutes of sitting together. I feel that this is the magic of this thread, it really brings together like-minded people.
We spent a lovely few hours together, ate and drank gallons of tea, made links and crafts (well done Annie on your crochet creation!) and generally had lots of fun exchanging stories and ideas.
The idea of a pre-Christmas meet-up was mentioned as a Christmas "do" so I would invite all interested parties to start thinking of a suitable date.
Those of you who did not make it were missed and mentioned and I truly hope that we will see you at the next one, whenever it is!Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi Caterina ,I have just arrived back home and thank you for a lovely afternoon. The Remenisance Centre was excellant and the parsnip and apple soup was gorgeous,I wish I'd asked for the recipe. Didn't Annie do well with her crochet I was very impressed(I think she suprised herself as well) What a nice way to spend a winters afternoon just chatting away ten to the dozen. Thanks again for the organisation. It was lovely to meet the lady who went to, my old primary school as well
I look forward to the next meet, and hope we can all do it again before Christmas
Cheers JackieO0 -
I echo what has been said!! Thanks, Caterina, for organising it. It was lovely to meet you all, and great to spend time just chatting with like minded folk!
My task for tonight is to google the Linus project for the knitting and to start to crochet (I already have the supplies). I have been inspired! :rotfl:
Looking forward to the next one ...... and I should be a little better organised!0 -
Thank you Caterina and everyone. I echo Caterinas sentiments, it's amazing how easily we all gelled, but of course we all have one important interest in common
- and the IoW for most of us, it seems
Although the trip home was a bit of a fiasco it certainly won't put me off another meet, in fact I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again already. And it was interesting to see another part of London, never really visited south of the river before. It was even quite civilised
Re dates I'm easy, any day/date except Mondays for me as that's when I go to my 'learning to breathe' class
Thanks again, night night

Back online now, no more blue screen :j
A big thank you to whoever organised my birthday card, so unexpected and lovely to receive :T
I sat on the bus on the way home crocheting, must have looked odd as no one sat next to me!
I've done lots of little patterns (started experimenting) got circles of stuff all over the place now.
Must work on my tension though
Caterina you are a great teacher, thank you soooo much.
It was lovely to put faces to names, and to see old friends again too.
Sorry I was so tired, and not my usual self.
Purpleclutterbuck.........It works:T:j:T
I take one frozen bottle to bed and leave it on the floor, when I'm woken by night sweats, grab bottle, shove on back of neck, roll over face, and fall back asleep:D
Much better than get, up run to bathroom for quick cold shower/face wash, change PJ's, then find myself wide awake
Look forward to the next one when I should be more awake;)0 -
Annie, thank you for the compliment! Let's look up the John Lewis free crochet and knitting tutorial days (they do 1-hour slots) and go together sometime!
Glad that Purpleclutterbuck'strick works for you!
Come on people give us some dates for the next meet, a nice pre-Christmas do!Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Sparrer our house that we booked provisionally in Yarmouth has fallen through as the owner decided not to rent it out next year so I had to change the venue yesterday ,guess where to ? Ventnor of all places. Wheelers Bay Road, not much of a garden but beautiful seaviews apparently and more central as its onlt 150 yards from the beach which will please DGS who love fishing.
Wasn't it a great meet I'm definitely up for another one, hopefully before Christmas, well done annie123 'granny blankets all round by next year:):)

There is a definite Wight Link (nothing to do with the ferry service) going on here! Jackie I hope you have a fav time in Ventnor!
Dates, girls, give me some dates please, so we can arrange the next meet!!!Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Oh, clever pun Caterina
(when someone says something so clever but so obvious, don't you wish you'd thought of it first? Ha ha)
I may be there in May/June Jackie, it's DM's 90th birthday and my DB, who lives in his own moneyed world, wants us all to go to the the Royal for a long weekend  - I will of course, if I win the lottery! Or I could try to get away with a b & b and sneak in to join them for meals0 -
Ohhh if there are enough of us on the Isle of Wight at the same time we could organise an IoW meet! I would need to know a fair amount of time in advance because I would need to book the cottage. Failing that, I can make it there and back in one day. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
