  • hello congratulations on your baby bump and glad the scan went well. I am due on the 23rd March and had my scan last fri! it was lovely to see how much they grow! how are you going with the cigs? i would really speak to your midwife and see if she can help with the giving up, or do some searches on here and read some bad bits and scare your self into it. it really is bad for baby and it might give you the kick to give up?? any way dont mean to sound a nag :p i am the same with my hubby, i really want him to quit also as it costs us a fortune and i had to give up so should he!!:p
Anyway just wanted to say hello and congrats. hope you get on well with your debt busting!

  • hiya, congrats on your pregnancy and sorting your money out before she is born. i am on mat leave at mo, (ds2 is now 3mnths old) and was on a similar salary to you so know what the drop in money feels like! (whoever decided the amount of money we get should be shot!)

Dont buy everything the baby magazines tell you that you need, you dont need half of it, and things like highchairs, nursery furniture, clothes etc you can get at a later date or ask family etc to give money towards it. (thats what i did the first time round.)

good luck with giving up smoking, will probably be the hardest thing you will have to do!

    keep up the good work,

This has turned into a bit of a stop smoking thread for me.... two weeks today :) Very proud..... We are literally only buying basics to get us through the first few months.... most stuff you can get from ebay or people who have recently have babies, everyone wants to give us things so we are taking advantage of that!
Im more worried about paying the bills when Im on maternity leave but we will manage everyone does.

  • Well done on the giving up smoking!!! i wish my dh would give up to!!!
im sure you will be fine with the maternity leave, like you say everyone manages so you will.

I would say write a list fo the things you know you want to get for the baby and then keep a eye out and get them when you notice a good deal! We dont need lots of things as this is no3 but i wanted to get a electric breast pump and so ahev been looking out for one and last night i noticed they were going for £21.99 on hotukdeals so nabbed it quick!! it sells for £85 in mothercare!! so there are bargains to get out there!!

Good luck and im glad things are going well

  • well done on giving up for 2 weeks now, the cravings should start to disappear by next week.

the one thing i wish i had done before i started on mat leave was to do a dry run for 2 months or so of living off what i get now and saving the difference incase we get short. its amazing how quickly you get used to the pay drop.............

once you see the debts coming down though it will become addictive!
