You cant blame people for using Limewire. They make it so easy.

you can't blame flashers, british home stores make it so easy by selling macintoshes! :)

    Why not?
Stealing is stealing so just because it is on the internet that is okay then?

I do (buy cds that is) and given that many music stores have yet to shut down I suspect I am not the only one

peer2peer software works in such a way as the downloader also uploads (hence, peer2peer). If the OP downloaded, say, the latest beyonce album a month ago, and left it in their 'shared' folder (or equivalent, never used limewire) it is possible they have uploaded several hundred copies of the album

no, thats filesharing you are talking about.

'Uploading' is physically ripping it from CD and putting it onto these filesharing networks, or buying it online and then sharing it with the world. The latter is easily traced via digital watermarking.

not only is downloading music via limewire illegal.... but using limewire itself is very harmful to your pc.....

i hope you run antivirus/adaware scans frequently as limewire is notorious for downloading the bad stuff as well as the illegal stuff....
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)
  • Does anyone know if limewire is one of the sites which are illegal and whether you know of anyone who has recieved a letter?

This person must actually be pulling our leg and trying to wind us up.

Surely no one actually believes it's ok to download music for free (unless it's part of an obvious promotion). Come on! It's stealing!

Mind you, the rate at people like to steal my pictures to use in their blogs, I'm hardly suprised!

P.S. Don't assume that everyone that has limewire has a computer full of viri and spyware. Macs don't have the same problem.

Just because some of us own Macs doesn't mean we are completely immune !!

Sorry to be so naive, pete, I was under the impression (I've never, ever used limewire, so may be wrong) that the data was shared across a network, is this not the case? Does each file just have 1 seed, who everyone downloads from, or does it work in a similar way to other p2p technologies in that as data is downloaded from 1 or more peer, it is (potentially) also uploaded to 1 or more peers, perhaps my use of the word 'uploaded', to indicate data which has travelled 'upstream' in the data link is where the confusion lies, which word would you have preferred? I was not trying to suggest the OP had ripped the data themselves, but I considered it highly likely that they had 'shared' copies of data which they, themselves, neither owned nor had rights to use in any way.

Indeed, but I've been running macs and pcs for a good few years with no anti virus and never had a problem...

..may I answer this with a quote from one of your previous posts -
