Limewire Very Worrrying

Options
Hello I was wondering if anyone could help me.....

My family all use the file sharing website called limewire, to download music. Recently we read in an article that some of these sites are actually illegal and lawyers have been sending out letters to thousands of people in Britain, demanding thousands of pounds for what they have been downloading. They have also been threatening people with court & other charges. I'm very worried about this because we download a lot of music from this site. Does anyone know if limewire is one of the sites which are illegal and whether you know of anyone who has recieved a letter?

Your thoughts would be very much appreciated thankyou.

  • Of course it is illegal, why else would it be free? If you have received one of the letters, i suggest you delete all stolen/downloaded content.

Sometimse you get a warning email from your isp to stop it and I would if I was you. Limewire and many other p2p programs contain lost of viruses/malware.

of course its illegal to download music you havent paid for. Its no different than walking into HMV and filling your coat pockets with CDs. If they do track you down and send you a bill, you cant really have any complaints can you?

"Oh record companies have millions" you may say. Not as many as they did have and its the artists and musicians that suffer.

I doubt you'll get caught though. I think their more bothered with people who upload the stuff.

peer2peer software works in such a way as the downloader also uploads (hence, peer2peer). If the OP downloaded, say, the latest beyonce album a month ago, and left it in their 'shared' folder (or equivalent, never used limewire) it is possible they have uploaded several hundred copies of the album

limewire is also a nightmare to get rid of. don't just uninstall it; google how to install it, as my in-laws had it on their pc and there are still files there. they will have to reinstall limewire (!) to get rid of it properly!

You cant blame people for using Limewire. They make it so easy. For better quality and virus free its best to download from a legal pay site.Does anyone actually still buy CD'S?.Dont think ive bought one for a few years now!
