I emailed Glasses Direct witha query early last week.
No reply. If they can't be bothered neither can I .
I'll look elsewhere.

To all moneysavers who like me, have a very strong prescription; I recommend https://www.spexmaniac.co.uk to purchase glasses from, as unlike all other online companies I have seen, they do not charge extra for 1.6 thinner lenses.
I purchased a pair of prescription sunglasses last month for just £17.50, which I am very pleased with. The lenses are just as thin as a pair I paid over £250 for several years ago from D&A.
I have now placed another order with spexmaniac for a standard pair.
Dont buy from https://www.goggles4u.com. I thought I would try them out first, but the glasses were like milk bottles, over twice as thick as the spexmaniac pair.0 -

I have a relatively high precsription, and got my hi index glasses from goggles4u, and they are fine.
Are you sure that you requested hi index lenses??
I made sure that I did (1.6) and I cannot fault them, and would happily order from them again.
Also, will have a look at the site you got yours (non milk bottles) from ... then I can perhaps post a comparision ....One day I want to be the pigeon...... and not the statue!0 -
Does one -5.00 (and one -3.5 lens) constitute a strong prescription?
I certainly wouldn't describe my two different pairs (one rimless) from Googles4u as milk bottles.

Yup, me too, and I work on a computer all day, so it's doubly important that the glasses are right. I've had no problems with mine (from Specs by Post). I actually visited the optician the week after I got them as I was getting contacts as well, and he obviously had to check my sight before the contact lens fitting. He checked it while I was wearing the specs, and I could read the second-last line (4 lines smaller than that legally required for driving), so the specs clearly can't be too bad!0 -
I have just received glasses from GLASSESDIRECT, £15 + £2.50p&p, my prescription is relatively high @ -7.50 however even with stadard lenses they look fab.
The last pair I had from D&A were £250 and fell to bits in 3 months !!!
I had great service, good web site and fast turn around - at last I can stop being ripped off for my specs and afford two pairs !!!0 -
Paid 236 dollars at https://www.39dollarglasses.com, about 130 quid, for aboslutely top spec bendable titanium rimless coated everything. Never had varifocals before and they feel extremely wierd - I'm told this is normal however and will take some getting used to.I ♥ MSE0

Hi, I'm a newbie forum reader, but have been money saving for the last couple of years.. I buy my glasses from the manufacturers.. I have an eye test at my local opticians, I've just had a £7.50 test from specsavers. Then I take the prescription down to the manufacturers. My local is in Sheffield. Axis Optical.0114 272 8993. They have loads of frames, and can do any type of lens. The single vision can usually be done straight away, while u wait, but I had transvision and they took 24 hours and cost £79 inc. frame (I'd been quoted £199). My mum's are a really strong prescription and they took 48hrs and she usually pays about £300 per pair, she got 2 pairs and a pair of prescription sunglasses for £250...she's well chuffed, as she lives abroad and they're really expensive where she is...:rotfl:To err is human, to forgive divine!!!:A0

My plumber bought some designer specs at an opticians in Cyprus while he was there on holiday. The price difference was huge compared with the UK High Street. Has anybody else done this? The reason I ask is that with the emergence of so many low cost carriers, it might make sense to actually go on holiday for a couple of days and buy your specs while you do so. The service in Cyprus was fantastic, by the way!0

I know people who have done this. I think the saving is about a third of UK prices on the high street. The internet probably still beats them but the major advantage is that you can see/try the specs before you buy and they can do complex prescriptions varifocals etc.
You can even post them back for repairs later.
Maybe a good option for someone who needs varifocals.0
