Glasses Buying Cost Cutting Plan Article Discussion Area

I´m sure the cost of the glasses also depends upon the cost of the frame. so I suspect that in reality the cost I would pay would certainly be higher. As a matter of interest how long does it take these days to get a prescription pair made up in UK, when we were there it used to take a couple of weeks. A friend of mine has just reurened from UK with a new pair of varifocals which cost her 400pounds.
It may take a few days to make them.
Your friend may well have returned from the UK with varifocals costing £400. There are variants within the lens type and there are variants in the prices of frames. If you choose a Chanel frame you will pay for the name.0 -
I have noted Spex4less already, Any others recommended?
I just need single lense glasses for reading and another pair for distance. My prescription is quite strong at +5 diopte/sphere (+ another diopte for close work) and several sites I've looked at won't accept more than +3 diopte which is strange? Spex4less look OK as they accept up to +6 sphere.0 -

I think when you need a complex prescription it should be free
When you say "free", who do you expect will foot the bill for your proposed free spectacles?0 -
As someone who needs varifocals I am very wary of on-line specs. I just wish I could have just one pair from such as Spec Savers at a cheaper price. They do this for NHS prescriptions. I always end up wearing just one pair rather than both.Truth always poses doubts & questions. If you are age 60 or over, Specsavers will give you a 25% discount if you would prefer not to have a second pair.0 -

Only 52 so a way to go yet. At least I always get free eye tests as my father had glaucoma.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0 -
I ordered some specs from Spex4less and also a pair from Specs-by-Post.
Spex4less charge a whopping £40 to go from a 1.5 standard lens to a 1.6 index thinner lens. Specs-by-Post only charge £10 for this and overall the glasses were a third of the price of Spex4less despite similarly priced frames.. Why is that? What do I get for the extra cost of using Spex4less (maybe they should be called Spex4More lol)? It could be quality, we shall see. In the past I used a cheap company (now not trading) and I could see no difference between their glasses and Specsavers which cost 5 times as much.0
