Unable to get thin lenses because of the prescription strength, or because NHS won't help?

There might be the possibility of a solution for you. You need to go to your GP and ask about the possibility of early cataract surgery. I know that you have not said that you have a cataract/s but cataract surgery would allow the myopia to be corrected to a greater degree, surgically. The NHS eye department may consider this in your special case.
  • Hello everyone.............I have worn glasses since I was 6 so have spent a fortune on frames.
Tried contacts but couldn't get on with them.
I have Silhouettes which are on their second year with new lens last Sept, have not felt comfy since I had them and they cost a bomb.
Opticians now do not measure faces etc, distance from ears to front of face and width of face.
No wonder frames are not comfy now.

The Optician will examine your eyes to check their health and will then, if you need it, offer a prescription for spectacles or will refer you to your local eye clinic if he or she feels that there is anything showing that warrants further investigation.

An Optical Assistant or a Dispensing Optician is the person who is responsible for ensuring that any spectacles prescribed will fit you properly.

If your spectacles do not fit you properly then you ought to take them back from whence they came and the Dispensing Optician or Optical Assistant there will do their utmost to ensure that they fit you properly.

Your last sentence implies that all spectacles dispensed are uncomfortable. This cannot possibly be the case and therefore the remark is senseless.

After reading Martins email I ordered a pair from Glasses direct after I lost mine and today they arrived and they are spot on with very good frames that fit better than my others - I was a little sceptical - but now I can see again lol - all at the bargain price of 12.95. Thanks Martin.

All my details are now on their site if I need more in the future.

Did I miss an offer or code or something? I can't find any frames for as low as 12.95... could someone point me in the right direction please?

A quick word of praise for spex4less. I ordered some varifocals from them which unfortunately didn't suit me. But their service was quick & informative, the goods were up to spec :cool2: and as advertised, the refund arrived quickly and with no quibbling. For single-focus lenses, I'd happily use them again.
