oasis concert: greedy ticket touts at it again

Options
I dont believe it...well i do actually.I tried to get 2 tickets for the forthcoming Oasis concert at the Stadium of Light dot on 10am this morning..but no. seems even waiting at your computer, left click at the ready, is still not quick enough.

But, it seems, that the ticket touts are quick enough. As it became apparent that i wasnt going to get any tickets, i ventured across to the only place where they were going to be available. yes, youve guessed it - ebay. Not 10 minutes had passed since the tickets officialy went on sale, and sure enough, there were plenty to choose from. one listing had been on only 30 minutes and had already attracted 16 bids, pushing the price to well over 200 quid.

Seems funny so many people can buy tickets and suddenly decide they dont want them, only to make a huge profit on them.It really boils my p**s. It is THE definition of greed. and it still baffles me how they can trample all over genuine people in the race to get the tickets first. why is it that those who have no intention of going to a concert always get the tickets? maybe im going about this all wrong, maybe i should have sat at the computer screen this morning and just pretended i didnt want to go, then i would have ended up with two! As usual, ebay are aware of this 'epidemic' yet will do sweet F.A. about it.

While I have nothing against selling the tickets on if you dont want them, or cant get there for some reason, I object strongly to the fat, greedy, gloating hungry hippos that snatch all they can get for sole purpose of ripping off genuine fans. It is something the music industry and ebay need to look at. I know how the people of MSE feel about this therefore i urge every one of you to report these listings whenever you come across them.

They dont just stop at concert tickets, though. Noooooooo. remember the release of the Nintendo Wii? the Pink Nintendo DS? the Playstation 3? All ended up on ebay for near 3 times their original price. Pretty much everything that is in demand now is only available on ebay. what started out as an ideal place to sell your bits and pieces, has now turned into a vultures paradise and a blacker-than-black market.

However, From a different perspective, this 'industry' only exists because of the desperate people that fund it. and i make no apology for calling them 'desperate'. they are. they are the parents, desperately trying to get hold of a Wii for the kids in time for christmas. they are the desperate fans, like myself, just trying to get a concert ticket.

I may be desperate. but im certainly not desperate enough to feed the fat, greedy, already stuffed face of a ticket tout.

There you go. Ive had my rant. I feel better now! However, i would like to hear your thoughts on this subject!

If some people are willing to pay well over the odds for tickets, then that is their problem, not the "touts". There is no supply without demand. Do you think the ticket sellers would carry on doing this if there was not the market for it?

But ask yourself what is the answer? Should the bands not be putting the tickets direct on ebay auctions to see what their true market value is? How should the band/promoter allocate tickets? Why should one person be any more deserving for the ticket than another? I first saw Oasis in 1994 when they supported the Boo Radleys at the Manchester Roadhouse - should I be higher up the pecking order than you, because I saw them first, or should I be further down the pecking order, because I have seen them over a dozen times already?

Besides, I've been to enough Oaiss gigs in my time, and the "flying warm pints" has put me off going to any more!!

But you also suggest we should report them - what for exactly? eBay are making a killing on Final value Fees, so why would they want to pull a prefectly legitimate listing?

If people are willing to spend well over the odds on a ticket or games console, then who are you or I to stop them? The PS3 did not make a premium price on eBay, as Sony were on top of the supply and demand situation at it's launch. Nintendo deliberately held back supply to increase demand and media frenzy.

    A fool and their money...

Just as an aside, a current search on ebay shows nearly 400 auctions for Oasis tickets all under £5....

I don't see how "fat, greedy, gloating hungry hippos" could be used to describe these sellers??

I do however see how desperate/gullible/materialistic people may bid them up to well over face value though....

Who is at fault in these examples then?

you are right, steve. i had highlighted that point in my rant. but if you are a genuine fan, and genuinley want to go to a concert, then is it fair to be elbowed out of the way by profit seekers and possibly have no other option (once tickets have sold out) but to pay these stupid prices?

The other option is to not go to the concert perhaps??? Sometimes sacrifices have to be made... We are talking about a luxury item here, it would be slightly different if we were talking about an essential item.

Alternatively, do some canny bidding, get a couple of pairs at the lowest price you can, regardless of face value, then resell the extras again on eBay to cover alll your costs.

Been there, done that. If you can't beat them, join them.

Hi Steve, I read the rant just a wee bit differently....from what I can see, I think the hidden/rhetorical question posed is....

"How are these tickets available to touts (or whatever we choose to call them) when everyone is sitting at their PCs waiting to click the buy button...I can understand what the OP is getting at...how quick do you have to be to get in first....or is something not quite right in how these tickets are being bought/sold? I have noticed it myself in previous years...no matter how quick you are...and we're all using the same purchasing mechanism...Ebay sellers seem to jump the queue.....

To be honest, the three main shows of recent years I wanted tickets for....I simply registered on the fan website and got "presale" codes to buy the tickets....U2, Bon Jovi and most recently, Cirque du Soleil...in fact I think I got a presale "headsup" recently for Metallica....but I'll give that a miss.
    I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:

if they bother you that much just report them cos they cant supply the tickets in the timeframe ebay specify (i think 30days)

    This was the case
Then eBay decided to help the eBay tout-scum-of -the-earth  as it earns them lots of fees.

The exception to this policy pertains to tickets. eBay permits sellers to list tickets that they have bought even if they do not physically have them in their possession as it is common practice now for event organisers to send out their tickets close to events.

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/pre-sale.html

If it really bothers and you are bored, if the auctions have all the ticket details, seat number, row & block...
    No any good for standing...

Send the links to ticketmaster, seetickets etc...
It is in their T&C that they will cancel tickets being re-sold, and no refund given :rotfl:

Whether they do this is another thing

But I do see that the MetroRadio Arena in Newcastle are takin action :T

I did read somewhere that the AC/DC gig at the O2 next year, as well as your ticket you have to present the CC they were purchsed on to get in...
If its the only way to put an end to these non-fans then it is the was to go :T
  • play have just started doing event tickets, to buy and sell.
