What have you put on your SOA, would be a good idea to stick it up in here and let people take a look. In case you have left anything off. How old are the kids?

Things to do. Carry on as normal as possible cos the wait will drive you mad otherwise. Carry on spending as you would normally - less credit (obviously) and ensure you are not paying any creditors you have listed on your petition. BR does not mean you have to suddenly stop spending your money, you still have day to day expenses to cover and Xmas is coming, so if you have budgeted for that then do it.

BR is to help sort out your life, not stop it.

Xmas is tight this year for the majority of us. Have you checked out Ebay?? I have bought quite a lot of barely used bits on there for my girls - they will never notice the difference and I have saved 50-60% compared to shop-new. Even better if you search for stuff nearby so you can save even more by collecting. I did that and found loads of stuff I hadn't even thought of.

No I think people sit and type them in here, I did mine in word them copied it over to here.

List what you have coming in and include everything all benefits etc, then list what you have going out .. all as per your forms, then I think we can look and may indicate places you may have put too little, or too much, or missed off some things that may be allowed for. This way hopefully you may have some to get your kids some presents with.

Sadly kids have to learn in this position that mummy cannot buy them all they want, and some things they dont need but still want cos Joe bloggs son has one!

Great advice Sky as always. Agree buy what you can now but NOT on any credit card ! I assume you have stopped using them all and do not attempt to take out any loans either!

  • I have 3 kids, 6, 4 and 8 weeks, baby obviously doesnt know what day it is so we save there, and my boys bless them only want a bike and a footie kit!! They dont play with toys so wouldnt be too bothered at receiving too little.
I havent even budgeted for xmas to be honest because ive been so worried about just paying for basic debts.

    Hi messimoney,
I know exactly how you feel, I was worried sick too back in May this year when I went to BR court.
People on this forum helped to ease my mind - I live alone and kept my "shame" to myself - only told people here and a good guy at CAB of my predicament.

I was scared stiff on the morning going to court by myself. I thought it was going to be an ordinary court with a waiting room full of 'real' criminals.
It was nothing like that. All staff were helpful and polite. The judge was really a nice bloke, and told me
there and then that he would declare me BR.
I haven't been discharged yet - soon hopefully.

I came out feeling like jumping for joy!
A great wieght was lifted off my shoulders.
No more nasty letters off creditors.

I know the time upto 4th Nov you probably will worry, like we've all done,
but honest, you'll feel great when it's all over.
Any probs/worries up to then, keep asking nice people here.
We've all been in your position

    EDIT.

CAB filled in my SOA form
    Did you get help?
:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing

  • All my debts are up to date, however this month we have a short fall of around 800 so they arent going to be covered, I can afford to pay the mortgage but then not the secured loans, so I guess its best not to pay any.

However now I have another dilemma, Im considering postponing going to court on 4th Nov till after xmas. My problem is, I work for a pension company and will definatley loose my job, the last thing i wasnt is to be bankrupt 6 weeks before xmas with no money coming in whatsoever, 3 kids and the threat of loosing my home hanging over us. At least if we hold out till after xmas (still not paying any debts) we will have that extra months wages to put towards a bond for rent accomodation.

But then this makes me think should we wait or just go do. AARRGGHHHH!!!
One minute Im like "yes go for it" the next im all "no wait, there is a way out". When I know full well there isn't!!
  • are you on maternity leave? just you mention baby only 8 weeks old .

once we decided to go BR we cancelled all payments and direct debits to all debts. and just payed all the essentials like mortgage and gas ...etc..
