Yeah, just under. I've been very calm about it since Darling stepped up and guaranteed it. But I'm starting to wonder if my hope of seeing it back inside of 6 months was a touch optimistic....

I am also starting to worry with 12500 in savings with icesave Darling just seems to have gone "dumb" to our plight and his guarantee .
I have filled his mail box today as no acknowledgement since last weeks to him.

I took the "we'll cover it all" to mean they'd pay out and get the money off Iceland later on, either by seizing assets or by pursuing it through the courts.

I really am starting to get concerned (again!) that we're not going to see this back for a very long time.

Am very curious about this supposed Icesave website update this afternoon. Am expecting another "we're working on it" from the FSCS. THey said we'd have details by the end of this week (again!) but at 4.10pm that ain't looking good....

they the fscs are a waste of time and space in my opinion and the real answer lies with Darling and the Treasury -I also expected then to payout and then pursue the money from iceland.

Still doesn't explain why the Dutch government have sorted things out for their Icesave depositors whilst we are all in limbo.

The Dutch gave Iceland a loan to cover the deposits. The UK offered a loan but it was rejected because of strings attached (probably that they had it pay it back or something!). I think the strings relate to the fact that the UK wants the frozen UK Landsbanki assets to cover the council and charities money as well as retail depositers. Whereas Iceland won't agree to that.

These paragraphs below give me a little more hope that Darling will just pay it out and chase Iceland for the money later.

"Now in the meantime, I have made it very clear that as far as depositors here in the United Kingdom are concerned, I have stepped in, so we can look after their interests and we will make an announcement to how we will do that pretty shortly."

"But I also need to secure the general tax payers' interest that's why I need a longer term agreement and we are working with the Icelandic government and with the IMF to whom the Icelandic government has gone in order to try and bring that about."

:( grrrrrrrrr.. I am tired of hearing "fast tracked, shortly etc etc" when in actual fact we hear pretty much NOTHING concrete.

Its interesting that AD is trying to use IMF as a tool, when the press conference with the Icelandic PM a few moments ago he was saying they would not accept the two issues being linked, or the IMF being used to put pressure on Iceland to sort out Icesave. So looks like AD and Haarde are poles apart at the moment which does not bode well for us at all.

There seems to me to be two fundamental things which need to be addressed before we get our money back. Is the Icelandic Government going to stump up their bit, before the British Government pays the rest and secondly, what will the mechanism be to do the repayment?

i.e. How will the ISA's be handled, what about interest, fixed term deposits, the physical transfer of the money?

All these things don't have to be on hold, they can be worked out and transmitted to us on a regular basis via the FSCS web-site. Why is there such a stunning silence from everybody?

I'm not totally convinced that the highups in the FSCS know how to handle this type of scenario. Their previous big payout to reunite people with their money was over mortgage mis-selling. That was a case by case small time operation compared with this.
