By the way LOOK AT THIS:
Looks like Iceland has got their IMF loan without any conditions relating to resolving issues with UK Icesave customers.

Why are you quoting a 4 day old report?0 -
In no way am I defending that lying creep Haarde, but it would be good to know exactly what conditions have been attached to our 3bn loan for the Icelandics to turn it down.
there was an article by the icelandic review that was posted that talked about the rumoured conditions0 -

Ok, so from what I can gather, it appears that Iceland ARE happy to cover the 16K in retail deposits, but the UK government wants to use Landsbanki's assets to go beyond that commitment.
If that is true, and who knows, then it's the UK government's actions that are stopping us from getting our money back.
But I'm assuming the UK is trying to also recover monies saved in Icesave by hospitals and charities.0 -

Here it is:
http://icelandreview.com/icelandreview/daily_news/?cat_id=16567&ew_0_a_id=314149
The crucial passage:
"According to Fr!ttabladid’s sources, British authorities demand that Landsbanki’s assets in the UK be used to cover the bank’s debts in the country other than what it owes account holders in its online banking unit Icesave.
That demand is not at all in line with the policy of the emergency legislation recently accepted by Iceland’s Althingi parliament, which assumes that Landsbanki’s assets in the UK will be used to repay Icesave deposit-holder."0 -

I love the way Sky have STILL got that bit about "if the first £16K is not covered by Iceland, the UK will not cover it". Darling said two weeks ago that he would honour it (just not when!), you'd think they'd update their website by now...0
