there are many petition websites on the net where you can create your own.0

I tried signing the petition. They must have a swear filter installed because mine doesn't appear.
If they don't get rid of the thief at the helm soon, why not tar them all with the same brush?0 -

Is there not someone who can volunteer to set up a really good petition saying exactly what we are all saying here and saying it very strongly? We'd all sign it. Or even better set up a webpage like the Icelandic people on http://www.indefence.is/0 -

Yes, I thought we should start a similar website with photos of signs saying "give us our money back please".
I don't like the use of the terrorism act for something that blatantly wasn't terrorism and I'm surprised they didn't have legislation relating to a financial situation like this.
But I'm getting a little tired of Haarde and co. mucking us around. Darling's interpretation of the call with the finance minister was spot on - they are refusing to pay out from their deposit scheme and that is in breach of EEA law.
I understand these things take a little time to sort out but this has gone on for too long now with no information. I applaud the IMF's move to withhold the loan until it's sorted out. Haarde needs to step up and meet his obligations. He played a large role in the bank's financial growth as finance minister. If he's happy for the banks to deal with the rest of the world in the good times, he needs to mee the obligations that go with that in the bad times.
We need some specifics from the FSCS - I know these things take time but "we're working on it" isn't going to cut it for much longer.0 -

Mathiesen: Yes, we guarantee the deposits in the banks and branches here in Iceland.
Darling: But not the branches outside Iceland?
Mathiesen: No, not outside of what was already in the letter that we sent.
Based on this response I would say that Darling has not told us any untruths, this says to me that they will not honour their part of the agreement.
and quoting from the icelandic petition
we would like to stress that the Icelandic authorities have always maintained their intention to honour their obligations in this matter, contrary to claims made by Chancellor Alistair Darling and Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Well the minister Mathiesen said in response to Darlings question.
"No, not outside of what was already in the letter that we sent."
GB & AD have not claimed anything!! its their in black & white in the transcript!!
By selecting just those passages its easy to to lose the overall context.
In my view, a fairer interpretation based on all the info I've read is that the Icelandic government were only prepared to guarantee 100% all home deposits because that was all they could afford. The Deposit Guarantee Fund for the rest of us would need to be post-funded (see my earlier post) and so the Icelandic Finance minister couldn't possibly provide a cast iron guarantee to Darling re Icesave depositors until such time as loan funding was secured. The UK have since offered the loan funding but with too many strings attached hence why we're still waiting for a solution whilst the Dutch have already sorted this out for their Icesave depositors 13 days ago: http://eng.forsaetisraduneyti.is/news-and-articles/nr/3049.
I'm not defending the Icelandic position but our own government aren't being straight with us either.0 -
No more endless hours of talks and hot air needed between Icelandic and British authorities which go round and round in circles and achieve sweet FA. Its time to put a gun to hardon or whatever his name harrdes head and make him agree to our terms and give us our money back!
http://www.indefence.is/ the nerve of these iceholes to complain about anything, their savings have been guaranteed by Icelandic authorities since they stole our money, our councils money and our charities money including a childrens hospice! Its not our fault their bankers thought they could take over the world!
I agree a decent petition would be a great thing.0 -

I agree, I can't understand what the argument is, how is that "Transcript challenges UK position on Iceland"?
Its bloody clear that they have not promised to honour the claims made by their scheme or Icesave.

Can some really eloquent person volunteer to set it up please?
By the way LOOK AT THIS:
Looks like Iceland has got their IMF loan without any conditions relating to resolving issues with UK Icesave customers.

In no way am I defending that lying creep Haarde, but it would be good to know exactly what conditions have been attached to our 3bn loan for the Icelandics to turn it down.
I still think they're stalling in order to get their hands on Landsbanki's assets once they're unfrozen, but who knows?
Both sides are likely to be spinning for all they're worth.0
