The religious argument made me smile by the way. I have a 4 year old who asked me, If God has been around for ever and the universe is only a few billion years old, what took him so long? What was he doing all that time? Is he made of atoms? How come we can't see him? How is it possible to listen to everyone's prayers at the same time? I can just picture the argument with your neighbour and the frustration it must have caused him! (This is not a bad trait! I'd be proud of him for being able to conduct such a discussion at his age, and being able to have a heated argument without losing his temper.)

Also i should apologise to GB, you did in an november thread tell me to contact NAGC.

I didnt relise they could help so quick, even if it is just a telephone call.

That's very good news. I hope things start to fit together for you soon and you get some answers as to what is causing the problem. I don't remember telling you about the NAGC previously but I'm glad you've spoken to them now. There are some info sheets for parents on the website too. Have a look at them to see if they ring any bells for you.

I still dont believe that DS has autism.

DS is quite bright in subjects like maths and science. He hates English, which i think is partly down to his speach

Kids with ASD are generally very bright excelling in Maths and Science, English is quite often a no no subject as it involves using ones imagination which most ASD cannot do, I know you said you don't think he has Autism but have you read up on Aspergers,

  • Tsk. Me again. Sorry! I meant to add that it is not uncommon for gifted children to excel in one area of the curriculum and not others. And it's very common for gifted kids to do badly in English.

When the brain is working faster than the hand can cope with, and when kids see whole words instead of their componant parts and when their fine motor skills are poor due to asynchronous development, you get kids who can't spell, can't write well and can't get their thoughts down on paper.

  • words are not always read as they are meant on here, my son has aspergers so no way was I judging I was trying to spare the op's feelings, after posting I realised that maybe it did not look right what I had posted to what I was trying to say hence the edit.

    Sorry for any confusion
  • No need, marie. And thanks.

Having a bit of a hard time with our own lad at the moment, though in a different way to the OP. Over-empathy-much I'm afraid! Sorry for being snappy.
