Probably not, vote with your feet and open an account at a real bank (I suggest hsbc).

I totally agree with your statement. HSBC fast pay is spot on, they have had it for nearly two yeras now. A+L is a mickey mouse wannabe bank, anyone expecting a smooth on schedule FP implementation from these clowns needs a reality check.

With some of these Wannabe banks they can only receive faster payments for the first few months and then when they get the full package FP works in both directions. Halifax was like that, I think that they now have it both ways. Another bunch of clowns:easter_ba

Yes. It's one of the reasons I want to leave them already. Thanks to this farce of a system, coupled with a total balls up of my own, I have been unable to get money into our joint account in time to meet lots of DDs.

My two months with A&L has cost me more than Halifax ever did, and to think I moaned about them :D

Yea, I've just discovered the faster payments weren't working recently, to my cost!

Sent a payment to my MBNA credit card, on 28.01.2010 and it didn't go as a FP, so now I've got late payment fee and interest!

Another family member swapped money to her savings account from A&L on 01.02.2010, and that didn't go FP either

    both were less than £250

What chance of me getting reimbersed from A&L do you think??

Faster Payments is not a guaranteed service - if you want to leave things to the last minute, you'd need to use CHAPS and pay for the privilege.

    Hi all
I have an A&L current account & the new 6.6% esaver. I am able to do a faster payment into the account no problem, but that doesn't seem to be the case for payments out, even though they were a founder member of the scheme.
Has anyone else succesfully done one outwards? The various info I can find on the web indicates it should work.
I want to take advantage of the Tesco savings clubcard points offer, which will involve me clearing all but £1 of the esaver into the current account on November 1 (to avoid losing a months interest) & then do a faster payment to Tesco, then bang the whole lot back on December 1.

    Cheers

    Youreds

one of the reasons why i left A&L (with my £150 bonus in hand)... they seem to behind the other banks with faster payments. I'm now with First Direct and all my payments in and out are fast. Another £125 bonus in hand but this time I'm staying!

Normally it does go through OK, as long as it's <£250. Had message back from them, and as someone else said, as it was the first payment I had made to that payee, it goes out as BACS.

Weekend caught me out aswell, as I made payment on Thursday. If I'd done Wednesday it would've got there Friday on BACS

    Ah well, lesson learned!

Wish I'd read this this morning, I didn't realise that the first payment goes as BACS so I did 2 * £250 payments from each of my new Premier Direct accounts to get to my Halifax account for tomorrow but nothing's arrived :(

I guess they won't get there until Thursday now?

If I'd transferred the two to my old Alliance & Leicester a/c as an internal transfer and then onwards to Halifax I'd have the money by now - booo

No you wouldn't. Transfers between A&L accounts, even if they're in the same name, aren't instant. If you'd sent the money from your new A&L accounts to your old A&L accounts, it wouldn't have been available until tomorrow.

The way to do it is send £1 by BACS and the following day you can send £250 by FP. It will still arrive a day ahead of the £1.
