Is it worth a mass protest via the official complaints channels?

Probably not, vote with your feet and open an account at a real bank (I suggest hsbc).

Where did you get this idea from?

Information gathered here, information wheedled out of A&L, and testing.
I did 2x£250 to Halifax, 1x£250 to Tesco and 1x£90 to First Direct on 1 July. All went into the accounts on 1 July.

Hm, my testing was a couple of weeks ago, so maybe they've improved it since then, if all of these went from the same account. Certainly the £250 limit has been in place for several months.

Were your two payments to Halifax to two different accounts? A&L won't send two payments from the same account to the same account on the same day (though maybe the joint account method might get around that too).
My guess is A&L does not process FP on standing order. (just pure guess)

I don't think most banks are using FP on SOs yet. None of my testing was done with SOs anyway.

As far as I'm aware, it's only the Santander group and Co-operative bank that have SOs excluded from FP, though several others have low limits and unreliable service that prevent many SOs going by FP.

Not really. Your complaints will be recorded down into different sections, and then likely end up in a pie chart slice labeled "EFT related."

As blueberrypie said, the limit is £250 per day per account. I'm assuming each of those four payments went to different account numbers. It's not possible to send multiple payments to the same account at all online with A&L, faster payments or otherwise.

You guessed correctly (last time I checked).

Please read again blueberrypie's post. You only read the first paragraph. She was talking about that we could only send ONE £250 FP from a A&L account in ONE day.

=If you have two accounts with A&L (e.g. a Premier Current Account and a Premier Direct Account), you can send £250 from each of them on the same day (but if you're thinking you'll transfer the second £250 to your second account in order to send it from there, don't bother, because the money won't be available until the next day anyway).

And if you hold a joint account, each of the account holders can send up to £250 per day from the same account.=

Well that isn't the case. It's been possible to send multiple faster payments from the same A&L account since the service was introduced. What you can't do is send more than one payment to the same destination account.

That is what I was saying. Genius.

Ahem, actually that's not what I said. I said you could send *£250*, not *one payment*:

I said nothing about a limit on the *number* of payments, only on the *amount* that can be sent from each account each day.

There doesn't seem to be any limit to the amount that can be sent from an A&L account each day (providing you have enough destination accounts to send £250 payments to). I've regularly shifted daily sums of >£1000 through online banking since March and have made multiple transfers above the FP limit before that.
