Is it worth having a second freezer

Moggins, I particularly find the hedgerow fruit thing odd - in a Heston Blumenthal prog, I watched (because I enjoy heckling the telly, it's a good way to let off steam!) he said the frozen raspberries he taste-tested had a more intense flavour than the fresh ones.
I try to stay on top on my freezer supplies. I have meat in the bottom drawer that needs to be eaten up though!0 -
Oh I am so glad there are others out there like me - I have on freezer stocked to the gunnels with meat and fish and the other stuffed with fruit, veg and bread-I have run out of cupboard space so I am now using some of it up and giving myself a break from shopping (apart from fresh milk, eggs, fruit and veg) for the next month and then I will start all over again! we are on a very tight budget so what I save will go to stocking up on meat againBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Oh yes, I can relate to this very much so. We have a pretty good sized fridge freezer in our flat. The freezer has 4 good size drawers in it yet I get worried if it's not jam packed.
As for the cupboards, I'm in a mild panic right now as the staples like tinned baked beans are down to 2, almost out of sugar, and no tinned tomatoes! One week til payday though and realistically I know there is plenty of food for at least 2 weeks here.
My dad used to say, "We may go to the poor house, but we'll go with full stomachs." I think I inherited that from him.:rotfl:
No you're definitely not the only one.

Ohh Moggins  I would be horrified. I have been happily married to DH for 21 years and he is also a chef. I was absolutely terrified cooking for him the first time only to discover he is the easiest man in the world to feed.
He is very dismissive of the ego thing that a lot of chefs have though and is adament that so many try to create art on a plate to distract from the lack of substance.0 -
My husband chucked out food close to the best before date when we moved. I was a bit annoyed too!
I think the moral of this story is that when we move again I will pack up the kitchen!!!0 -
I never let my husband near the kitchen. He would'nt dare touch a thing, knows he would suffer badly if he did.
With regards to the freezer,my freezer's so stuffed I had to break the drawers to get things out.Still just means I don't have to open them now.0 -
Folk, you're not alone! I've also got two freezers that are chock full of food - the upright section of the American FF in the kitchen and then I've got a chest freezer out in the garage.
Living on an island, there are times when the ferries don't sail because of the weather conditions, so there's an element of hoarding on account of that (well, that's my excuse and I'm going to stick to it!). I always like to know that I've got food in to make a meal or two
I've also got the hoard of toilet roll under the stairs tooIs it a woman thing?!
Re Freezer burn: It's where the surface of the food has become exposed and it's a quality issue, not one of food safety (it's not going to harm you). The food might be a bit drier than normal, but as ever, just make sure that it's cooked thoroughly.0 -
