On occasions i cover the night shifts annual leave. Around midnight i pop over to MrT to get some yellow sticker stuff. I'm normally able to pick up loads including good joints of meat. Trouble is by the end of the couple of weeks my freezers are jammed full and i still want to buy more bargains when i see em.
Oh, and ladies i'm dissapointed in your stereotyping of men  . I'm a beer drinking, rugby loving out with the lads kind of bloke who does all the cooking in the home using many a tip found on here. My DW bless her really struggles to cook anything. Works well though as i love cooking. Best bit being you always cook the food that you like.0 -
I have gone the other way... We used to have 2 freezers; one in the kitchen & one in the spare room. However, my MIL is terrible for buying stuff that won't get eaten cos DH doesn't like and I was finding that we were running the second freezer to store rubbish basically.
If I had complete control (that'll be the day), then it would be a brilliant idea. As it is, I'll make do with the one - MIL knows that one's FULL! I do have just about enough room to freeze a few extra portions of chilli con carne/spag bol and some bread rolls if they're on offer though.
Probably just as well we have stopped using the second freezer, as my stepson's apprenticeship has fallen through in London and he's coming back to live with us again. It was in his old room and it did make a bit of a racket!0 -
Runnings costs are important!
An old freezer could cost as much as £1 a day! = £400 a year
Modern efficient chest freezers could be just £30 a year
So don't struggle on with an old freezer when spending £200 on a new one gives you pay back in just over 6 months!
darn thats where ive been going wrong I thought there were less than 400 days in a year:eek:THE SHABBY SHABBY FOUNDER0 -
Hi all, planning our new kitchen and wondering about getting a 2nd freezer. Our main one will be an integrated fridge freezer but we are thinking about a 2nd small chest freezer in the outhouse. We always seem to have our current underthe counter freezer packed full to capacity, I do alot of bulk buying and DH does bulk cooking. Also we're hoping to get an allotment so there should be produce to freeze.
Who has 2 freezers and who uses them? and is a chest freezer a good choice for the long termbulk storage stuff?DEBT: £500 credit card £800 Bank overdraft

Hi halia,
i would say it will be worth getting a chest freezer, maybe a second hand one if its to go in the out house, could even check out gumtree/ freecycle and see if you can pick one up for nothing.
Sounds like you'd benefit from having it.

YES, YES, YES. Got ours about 3 years ago and LOVE it. Great if you bulk cook and if you get an allotment. You can freeze alot of the produce you grow (otherwise what would you do with hundreds of runner beans ready at the same time!). Really worth the investment.:DDon't be a sheep, be a shepard!

I think it's definitely worth it. There's an earlier thread discussing this that should help so I'll add your thread to it to keep the replies together.
