Definately get a second freezer. Think how handy it is if you need to defrost one of them - you just stuff everything in to the other one. Doesn't work with me tho as both of mine are fullup.:D

I have two kids at home (and OH), and we have three freezers and buying in bulk or batch cooking is saving us a fortune. Last month I bought an entire lamb from a local farmer (loads of chops) , 10 family joints and I minced the rest for mousaka and sherherds pie etc. (I only cost me £65.00) - couldnt have done that if i only had one freezer.

Just buy a AAA rated one if you can.

oo don't mention turkey. we have a 7.9kg one frozen in my parents. I've seen smaller ostriches.

TBH the only con i can see is the cost of buying the second freezer. I would love to have fresh frozen veg but no room. i mistrust packet stuff so much so as a result i spend loads on fresh veg even when out of season. I think I may be freezer shopping after Christmas

    Hi

I spent ages wondering if I should purchase another freezer (we have an upright fridge/freezer but the freezer compartment is smallish) and its definetley worthwhile doing!!

Definitely worth it - I got one in the sales a few years ago. Go for a chest freezer if you can, as you get more storage space (and they tend to be cheaper). Remember, you can always switch it off if you don't need it. My spare one is currenlty unplugged and empty as it lived in my garage which has been demolished, and I miss it - it means I can't batch cook or bulk buy bargains.

We have a second freezer, A chest type that lives in the garage.

Both are full at the moment, and there are only two of us

Could not imagine being without the second one.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I'm not sure if having a 2nd freezer is worth it , you will just be storing food for the sake of it . If people are constantly running 2 freezers full of food where is the logic behind it , you are really just freezing money at the end of the day .
If you are growing your own produce then it probably makes sense to freeze the excess, but the constant buying food because its ''cheap'' doesnt make sense after a certain amount imho

I think given that you've got access to this great source of cheap meat it would be a crime to not take full advantage of it. And if you're actually running out of cooked-ahead meals because you don't have the freezer capacity to store them well, you obviously need another freezer! Your current freezer is tiny anyway...I'm looking for a new ~ 6/7 cubic feet one and I still won't get rid of the tabletop one I have down in the utility room, for allotment surplus.

Definately get another freezer. It will give you so much more scope for money saving, especially when you can get the kind of good meat deals that your husband is able to take advantage of. We have a fridge/freezer in the kitchen and a large ancient upright freezer in the garage. It is always full of home grown vegetables, home-made stock, food bargains that we've spotted and lots of batch-made meals such as chile, spag bog, etc. Having this flexibility makes menu planning so much easier. We couldn't manage without it, and I'm sure that if you're resorting to take-aways a couple of times a week for four people, this is costing you far in excess of the cost of the electricity you will use for an extra freezer.
