Hi,
Long time lurker here
I've been debating with myself whether to get a 2nd freezer or not and wondered if any of you could help me decide. I do know it obviously uses electricty and am looking at 130 pound spend but I find with my hectic work (community support worker with any shift pattern from 6.45 am starts till midnight finishes and not much notice being given what shifts I am doing) I often go for unhealthy quick choices. I love cooking but at the moment struggle to do proper batch cooking with only 4 freezer compartments ( 1 entirely for veg). My plan was to spend a weekend in the kitchen and cook plenty of soups and tomato sauce, spag bolognaise , do mashed pots in pots etc freeze it so even if I find out I need to leave for work in ahr I'll be able to quickly defrost something instead of buying stuff full of preservatives.
Was wondering if this sounds economical or whether should just try to make better use of the space Ive got?
Thanx in advance,0 -

Hi ana,
I would go for it if you can afford it and have the space. I have two freezers (both in my garage) and would replace either one if they were to break down.
There's an existing thread with lots of advice on whether or not a second freezer is worth it so I'll add your thread to that one to keep the replies together.

i have 2, and its not enough. they arent massive big freezers, in fact one is quite small and the other is an upright but i would love a big chest freezer. if i had the space of course.
no matter what size freezer you have, you always need a bigger one.0 -

We have two freezers and I would be lost without them! Especially in the lovely weather we are having at the moment, with a family of 3 rugby players who eat me out of house and home, I find that it is invaluable.
Personally I would recommend having two and batch cooking if you can because it will be cheaper and healthier for you in the long run. The problem with working shifts that are as long as that is that you run the risk of becoming run down and if you are eating a lot of processed food then that doesnt support your immune system as well (spoken from experience I am afraid!)
So personally I would always recommend as much freezer space as you can especially if you enjoy cooking anywayFree/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -
Is it worthwhile getting a second freezer ? I have a fridge/freezer but its stuffed full, and I got the pressure cooker so I could batch cook and freeze meals ready to eat - but can't get on with it because the freezer's full of meat and frozen veg. Am wondering if its OTT to have a second freezer for ready-cooked meals, although there are only two of us.0

I have three freezers... and every so often I have to stop cooking and start eating the stuff in them0

We've always run two freezers for the two of us and now we have Dad as well and also a dog who is fed a raw diet most of which is delivered monthly frozen. Currently we are a bit OTT as we're running five freezers  which I suspect is contributing to our huge electricity blls....
Our aim is to get down to at least four - one in each section of accommodation, main house and grampa annexe then the chest freezer in the shed and a small freezer for the dogs food.
I'd like to get down to less but that would involve one of the accommodation units not having a freezer or mixing the dogs food with ours which is a recipe for disaster!Piglet
