Is it worth having a second freezer

I'm going down the route of a second freezer, I only have 3 drawers in my fridge/freezer. We dont have a garage so I would need to get electricity to the shed before I can get a freezer. I think they are efficiant to run as long as they are over half full. The emptier they are the more electricity it uses.
There are 5 of us and I could manage with out a chest freezer, particularly when grabbing bargins in the reduced section in supermarkets:j0 -
I would advise a 2nd freezer, but not a 3rd! It does help to note whats in there though otherwise things will live in there for ages that you have fogotten about (have just got rid of our 3rd freezer for that reason!)Only two big facts are known for certain: you are on a large, spinning rock hurtling through lonely space at about 67,000 mph, and one day your body is going to die. Will a new pair of shoes really help?

Beware of old fridges and freezers!
Recent ones are very energy efficient
In some cases it might be worth replacing an old fridge or freezer for a new one and saving the purchase cost within a few years of cheaper running costs - this would affect the freecycle option too.

Energy Saving Recommended fridges and fridge freezers use over 60% less energy than a typical old one. This will give savings of up to £37 and 150 kilograms of CO2 a year for a fridge freezer and £16 and 64 kilograms for a fridge.0 -
ive never found that a 2ndhand freezer is a worthwhile investment. twice now, ive bought/acquired one, and on both occasions they broke down within a matter of weeks. for some reason i dont think freezers like being turned off and moved. also for energy efficiency, newer models must be more economical to run?

The only problem is that I don't keep a note of what I put in and take out and so don't use them as efficiently as I could, but I certainly couldn't be without either and nothing goes to waste. I don't really give a thought to running costs because they must have saved me so much money over the years. One particular bargain which stands out in my memory was being able to avail myself of 5 Duchy Originals Turkeys at around £7 each on Christmas Eve 2004 (reduced from approx £22 each). We lived on turkey for the first few months of 2005!
Maybe you could make a list of freezer items and attach it and a pen to the side of the freezer?“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
I have two and wouldn't be without the extra one. As many have said it can enable you to take advantage of bargain meat/fish. Mine also fill up with garden produce and fruit. I'm just accumulating my blackberries
Apples will be next.
Someone mentioned half empty freezers being uneconomical to run. If one of mine starts to get 'space' I fill up the space with empty boxes which is what my dad told me to do donkeys years ago
I can also remember in the days of power-cuts mum used to keep blankets on stand-by to wrap round the freezer which I always thought was bizarre but, apparently works in keeping the inside cold0 -

I've just bought a second freezer, an upright 4 draw. I bought it from Comet and their site tells you how much the average running cost is per year. Try & get an A or AA grade if you can as they are the most energy efficient. I did consider getting a chest freezer but they were mostly B or C grade so went for the upright instead.0

Hiya,
I have a chest freezer and I wouldn't have anything else. I got the biggest one I could at the time that was A+ rated (8.1 cubic feet). However, I have since seen an even bigger one that is also A+ rated.
My mum has her chest freezer and a fridge in the house and in the garage, she has... A tall freezer, a fridge freezer (that I am using at the moment, lol) and another fridge with ice compartment. She has acquired all of these and they aren't all perfect, but it gives a lot more storage and she couldn't be without them, lol.
I don't know if I would have as many (if I had the space, lol) but I would definitely have more than one.
