I f you are putting your second freezer in the garage or a very cold place make sure you get one that will work in low temperatures. this might sound silly but they dont all work when cold

No it's going in the middle bedroom (stepson is 16 and only comes to stay once every 3 months or so).

The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

we have a huge chest freezer in our shed, i bought it second hand for £20 and well worth it as it was only a couple years old. and indoors i have a fridge/freezer. i stock up the chest freezer with bulk and indoors i keep the food i will use in the week. i have saved so much on my food bill since having the extra freezer.

Wish we even had a proper sized freezer - only have a 2 shelf one here with a good sized fridge

Means that by the time you've got some chips, fish fingers, peas, ice cream etc in it there's no room for anything else :(

Can't complain though - one rented place I lived in had the same sized freezer for 5 of us - now that was fun ;)

  • I also have two freezers, one upright, one small chest. I usually do a megga shop at the start of the month as only have one car for O/H and he works odd hours so I find that this works best for us. I portion everything up and then label according to my meal plans for the month and take what ever were eating for dinner that day out of the freezer first thing in the morning. I find I save money with no impulse buying during the week and take advantage of multi offers. I also buy my meat from the farm shop, last buy spent £60.00 and this will last us about 4 months.

  • Hi

I had this dilemma a couple of months back and decided to go for a big 18cubic feet chest freezer outside. We definitly made the right decision in doing this and am now able to buy reduced food, bulk cook etc etc without worrying about if we have room. I have an average freezer in kitchen then the biggie outside. It means also, that when I do an online shop using voucher codes ;) I can order as much meat, poultry, frozen food as I want without the worrying. Also freeze milk too now, which Ive never done before.

i have a second larder freezer in the garage and it was well worth doing, we save a fortune on stock buying froozen food, plus always buying the nearly out of date food in the bargain section of sainburys, i have sausages coming out of my ears!

Yep, Sainsburys is my moneysaving tip too - Amazing bargains at 8 pm.

    Need a 3rd freezer really!

I have a normal size one in the kitchen and 2 large chest freezers in the garage (one is jam packed full of beef in gravy!!!) and i find them a god send.

I would say that the more freezer room i have the more bargains i am able to get and i did run out of freezer space when OH decided to come home with 15 bags of chips 1.8kg each because they were reduced to 10p and had to give 3 bags to the next door neighbour.
  • Ive got two freezers too and I dont know how I ever managed with one.
I also do the bulk cooking thing and it works really well for us, I work term time so I have a big "cook up" when I'm at home in the school holidays. When Im back at work I cook tea whenever I can and on days when the kids have loads of things on after school rather than shoving scampi and over chips under the grill we can have a "proper" meal with no effort and hardly any washing up. I am putting on weight though since all this Ol' Stylin', I'm living too well.........

If you keep a freezer in the garage or somewhere like that if you give it a rub over the outside with baby oil, vegtable oil etc from time to time paying special attention to corners it stops it going rusty
