• Interesting to see how the media have backed off. When this all broke BBC teletext had it at the top. With yesterdays announcement that talks between UK and Iceland are at a stalemate it just scraped in on page 116 then dropped to page 122. Not long before it wont get a mention at all

Maybe we should get ready to hand deliver our own claim forms to the FSCS office en masse on one of the dates mentioned in other Icesave forums? If the FSCS doesn't have a pro-forma ready to send out, perhaps we should do it for them.

Don't be too pessimistic just yet. There is an imperative here and it's that the FSCS will have to come up with some positive news soon or Alistair Darling will be seen to be untrustworthy. I believe that an announcement is due today so we'll wait and see. I'm sure that Martin will back us all the way in any possible action.

Darling won't be seen to be untrustworty because the media have been gagged from giving the plight of Icesavers any prominence, and as we all know, most of the electorate have very short memories. Brown, Darling and the scum in the Icelandic government are hoping we'll all just go quietly in to the night and let ourselves be forgotten about.

Five months!

Yea. How long does it take to return a form?!
• I don't think it's as easy as all that, unfortunately. Because the UK gov't seized the assets under the Terrorism Act laws I think they have to release it after 28 days as obviously Iceland haven't actually performed an act of terrorism against us ...... yet! :D

True, but then again, I don't see why it can't be that easy

What about paying us out from frozen assets under the "returning things to their rightful owners" laws?

That statement is patently untrue. See here.

Whose side are you on?

I was only giving a very simplistic overview of my limited understanding of the situation. I apologise if I got it wrong :o

As for whose side I'm on, considering almost all my savings are also stuck in Icelandic accounts ... take a guess!!! :D

I have e-mailed Darling last week no reply or acknowledgment so send another one yesterday to him
darlinga@parliament.uk why not us icesavers today all send reminder e-mails to AD requesting information and an update to when we are going to get our money.

forgive me for repeating the gist of an earlier post of mine. i wrote my own MP and got a reply next day, saying he would take up my request for daily bulletins on progress with the the govt. (used www.writetothem.com)

i think pressure/reminders should be taken up - but praps more usefully to your own MP - that way Darling/the treasury get representations from MPs, which have to be answered, and will maybe be more effective, politically, than a bunch of individuals writing Darling.

if there's an update by FSCS today, it'll prolly be to the effect that talks are ongoing etc, and then we'll be back to waiting again. therefore, requests for more frequent bulletins are prolly still required.

PS add your own observations about the general debacle to any request for more info.
• Have you all seen this

Why haven't we got a site with a petition like this?

Mark on Icescam.com is collecting people's names for an ACTION GROUP. Makes sense to all join together - more clout!

I wrote 9 e mails to my mp, am, meps etc and have had 6 responses, the most pathetic was from the labour mp. The others were pretty good replies and have indicated that they will try and keep the pressure on. The best replies were from various members of plaid cymru. I have never voted for them but I am impressed with them so far as they will not be letting this drop

I emailed Mr Eyebrows last week and have also had no reply. So, I think spamming his email box en mass is probably wasted effort.

I did however receive a letter from my Conservative MP who I emailed last Friday. He explained the current situation, and said that having spoken to the FSCS, it told him it would be publishing a timetable for the return of funds week commencing 27th Oct, although of course that is just what he's been told ie probably just a bit of flannel to make an MP go away.

He also said that if compensation was not paid within "the coming weeks", he would be happy to make representations to Mr Eyebrows on my behalf.

As for this alleged Icesave website statement, I can't see what positive news it could or will contain considering that no agreement has been reached between the UK government and the Icelandic thieves for the return of depositors money.
