As I understand it the norm is for petrol station cashiers to have their wages deducted if the till is short.
Also, pumps are allowed to round a bit in law. I know this because I had a rounding error when I one bought exactly 10 litres at say 50p and was charged £5.01. Queried it with the garage and trading standards who checked the pumps and found them to be accurate. TS advised that there is a minute tollerance allowed and if the pump dispenses 0.0049l extra then it may show as 5l and not 5.005 l but the charging will be right.0 -

Our pumps dispense 11.38 litres for every 10 litres bought
We reported it they have yet to fix it.0 -

No it was a company fuel thing and there were many hundreds of pounds in it. And yes, contacted TS because we didn't know what the rules on pumps were re over or under reading. We expected that there might be a tollerance but didn't know for sure.0
