Have taken my readings this morning

Leccy was 52186 now 52274 so used 88 units
Gas was 8000 now 8012 so used 12 units

Really confused now:rolleyes: We've had heatin on loads more and OH has been playing on his ps3 and xbox loads more than last week. I really expected our leccy units to have gone up not down:confused: . Not gonna complain, i'll just not have to nag him as much;)

  • Hello!

Reading for yesterday 02306 making my usage 178 over last 2 weeks - divide by two makes my weekly usage 89 so am slowly reducing :T

Have put 4 new energy saving bulbs (free from EDF) in the lights we use most this week so hopefully that will bring it down a bit more and am making a valiant effort not to use the dryer!

....Does anyone know how I can work out how much my units cost?

The only certain way is to dig out your last bill and have a look at that (unless of course your supplier has put prices up/down in the meantime).

Haven't posted for a couple of weeks but have been doing my readings - they're averaging at 99 - 100 units per week. Thing is, I have been cutting down my electricity use over the last few months - wish i'd known what the readings were before I'd made the changes:mad: so I could compare!

Must say - I think I'm going to find it hard to cut down further but will try!!

Current meter reading (today at 6pm) 80128.

I don't think 100 units per week is TOO bad for a family of 5! What do you all think?

I'm such a hypocrite - I'm blissfully adding everyone's scores to the first post and haven't put my own in for about 3 weeks. I've got the reading on scraps of paper at home, I just never get time at home to do anything with them. Must put that on the to-do list for tomorrow.

Brummiebabe, I don't think that's excessive for 5 of you, what size is the house?

Sarahneedle, looks like you've used 100 units at night last week - if that's right and it's because you've been up to midnight doing the washing then fab. Or has your OH been up to tricks again with the domestic appliances?!

Turnaround sue, you're doing fab to keep things at that level, it's not quite the 50% you made the first week but that's a massive reduction and it sounds like you're not really missing anything too much. You're an inspiration!

Thanks everyone for keeping posting, it's definitely motivating me to keep going by knowing I have to update this thread otherwise I'd probably have got bored with energy saving by now and taken up backgammon instead. Cheers guys!
  • Thanks Panda.... No OH hasn't been up to anything for a while.... we have had to put the silly storage heaters on the last few days, plus the little heater in DSs room as its been so cold, and where its been wet, the dryer has been on overnight ( I have a timer so that it only comes on during cheap elec times).... but I must confess I have been using it a bit during the day too, just to catch up on the washing :o
Will do better next week tho!

Thanks Pandapaws - am trying to get down to the 100 units per week mark so that will bring me to 50% reduction on my electricity. It is everyone else on this board that inspires me, and hoping that together we can all save loads of money so those rip off merchants who call themselves electricity companies do not get a penny more than what they deserve:D

Usage this week is 12863 took the reading an hour late, that's 100 units on from last week so more than last weeks usage but less than control week. We used the tumble dryer a few times and DH has been doing loads of editing and downloading so the computer upstairs has been on over night a few nights.

    Getting there:D

We've used 130 units of electricity last week, which is 127 more than our target - but at the weekend we discovered the kids had threadworms (eugh, eugh, eugh) so I washed all the bedding in the house on the same day, which meant the washing machine was on constantly for a couple of days, and we had to use the tumbledryer to get things dry because there was so much of it.

And our gas is up as well, because we've been home with colds, so we've had the heating on more than usual during the day.

I guess that's what happens in the winter though!
