Aw Sarah, looks like the oven incident hasn't done you any favours this week! You'll have to kick him into touch for next week.

I've been blissfully updating everyones readings on the first post and thinking to myself that some of us are on the third week now, when it suddenly dawned on me that I haven't taken a reading myself. Duh. I'll take one at 10.30 tomorrow and then work out the daily rate from that. Think it will be a bad one as we've had boiler problems and I think the pump on the central heating has been going constantly (that is electric, right?).
  • Sorry kinda forgot was away etc etc etc -

so my second reading is 14025.5 done today 12/11
First reading was 13323.3 (thanks pandapaws)done on 20/10

Using fingers - used 702.2 units in 24 days - will cheat average it over 24 days then x7 to get a week figure (29.25 a day/204.81 a week) now will look and see how hideous this is compared with other folks. (About 26 quid a week? 4 bedroom house with brother living in attic - so really 5 bed I guess)

Glad to have done this as just have had lodger move in and be interested to see the difference!

Will try harder next week promisex
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
    minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:
    :money:Sleeves up folks.:money:

I'll be kicking myself into touch too, I must confes to having the tumble dryer on during the day, more than once last week! But it seems the sun is out again, so should be able to do some line drying this week :o

Oh dear i can see this is not going to be as easy as i first though. I cheekily checked my leccy reading about an hr ago, and thinking we had a good day yesterday i was curious to see how many units we'd used. 19! I could'nt believe we used 19 units (in 19hrs), we were out most of the day too so no tv on no laptop or xbox on and OH had an early night and he turned all lights out and everything.
Saying that tho we only used 2 gas units in 19 hrs too. I was expecting it to be more than that as heating was on low from 6 till 7 then gave it quick blast while we all showered for half hr then back on low till 10.
Was looking at sun jars last night on the big green switch website, thinking of getting one for lounge, but they seem quite expensive (maybe its just me being tight). Would you actually get your moneys worth by using them and not lamps or are energy efficient bulbs just as good or better?

  • This sounds like my sort of challenge, I would love to cut my electric bill by half! Will certainly give it a go.

I actually submitted my meter reading to BG online on 5th November, so I don't even to wait a week to get started properly - yipppee! It's not exactly the same time of day as I checked it last week, but what's a few hours between friends ;) . Will try and read meter at the same time from now on.

Readings last week were: Low: 77721 and High: 38176
Readings today are: Low: 77740 and High: 38244

87 units in total if my sums are right?
Cutting my bills down to size and saving money :j
So far I have reduced my outgoings/increased my savings account balance by: £16.80 a month
Lots more bill-slashing in progress :D

My 2nd weeks meter readings were due yesterday and because I was out I took them 2 hours late but hopefully won't affect my actual consumption much.

So since my first week of "normal" consumption I made some changes at home. Aimed to do all my washing at night as well as cut the dishwasher down to once a day, again put on at night. TV, Video, DVD, Sky all switched off at night as were all other sockets. Changed my DD's light which would normally be on all night to a battery powered LED light.

My gas meter reading yesterday was 594, last week was 578 - so a total of 16 units used which was down 3 units from the week before.

My electricity meter reading yesterday was 18424, last week was 18347 - so a total of 77 units used which as down 4 units from the week before.

I'm quite pleased with that because my whole family were ill over the weekend so the heating remained on most of the time and I had to do extra loads of washing during the day because the whole family kept vomiting and I had to keep cleaning bedding and clothing.

So for my first week I'm pleased that I've saved myself £3.37 in Gas and 0.48 in Electricity (according to Imeasure.org)

Pretty sure we'll be able to reduce it again next week.

Reading this morning was 12678 against last weeks of 12567 so 111, gone up 5 units.

We did use the tumble dryer a fair bit so that is probably it, didn't get much choice though as it has thrown it down and no room to put up a clothes horse, DH hasn't done much washing for the last week or so, so I've been left to do it on my days off this week. Might mean we will actually go down next week though,

We found the standby saver and have put energy saving bulbs upstairs (still need to find some though for the lounge and dining room). Will be getting our new oven in the next couple of weeks so hopefully by Christmas we will be seeing quite a drop (fingers and toes crossed).

I'm off for the weekend so I will post my reading on Sunday when we get back - it'll be 24 hours out but never mind.

    Hi everyone,

forgot to check my readings on monday but as I'm having a new meter fitted on the 17th will rejoin then with lovely 000 readings I hope ;)
  • Reading today: Gas = 2036 // Electricity = 36542

    Okay, 1 week later:

Gas = 2061 (25 units more than last week)
Electricty = 36664 (122 units more than last week)

    Week 2 Figures

    Gas = 2085 (24 units used)
    Electricity = 36792 (128 units used)

I was actually thinking today that I haven't had to have the gas fire on as much as I did last week, as we've had a few warmer days, however I have kept my central heating on as timed, so that was on more than it was the previous week.

Got my final electricity bill today from British Gas, chuffing £178 from 9th August to 2nd November!!
    Start Date: 27/11/2010
    Padding: Day 42
    Target £8000
    Amount: £562.23
